Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How many? To many.

Why? 'cause I'm an idiot.

It's sad, isn't it?

I could try and throw our 7 year old daughter into the ownership pool, but everyone would see through that!

01 allez comp: full aluminun except of the fork (carbon); rides good responsive, but body very tired after 50 miles riding..
05 E5; Combo Aluminun/carbon. rides very good, but not responsive like the allez. ok for long rides 100miles.
09 Tarmac Sl2:full carbon: best for everything. stiff, responsive, feels like i could ride forever. very lite.

If the tarmac's the best for everything, why do you have the other two?

1. Single speed Bob Loblaw Law Bomb with fenders and flashers for fog, rain, snow, etc. So far this year, this bike has seen more mileage than all my others combined.

2. 2005 Tommasini Sintesi for my main ride. Races, group rides, good weather training.

3. 1983 John Howard is my vintage pride, restored to period-correct Campy 6-speed glory. I ride it on easy days or on the occasional group ride.

4. 1993 Bridgestone MB-1. Currently disassembled, eventually to be my touring/randonee/commuter rig.

I have four. They're for different kinds of riding.

Two roadbikes - one for 'goal-oriented' long rides, another for just riding for fun.
Two mountain bikes - one for 'goal-oriented' long rides, another for just riding for fun.

If it came down to it I could get down to two bikes but I don't want or need to.

I bought both the fun bikes used, and together they were 1/5th the cost of the two goal-oriented bikes, so really having them is less an issue of money and more of space.

At the moment I also have a cheapo VW Trek rigid mountain bike and a '87 Traveler, but they're project bikes I'm building for other people. There's also an early 70s Continental in the basement, but I'm just storing that for a friend.

Mine are pretty straightforward, one or road, one for dirt. I'd like to build a fixie soon, but I'm in the middle of Operation Pay-Off Credit Cards.

Has anyone noticed what a silly name Specialized is for a bike company? Don't get me wrong. I have always loved their products. They are top notch. It's just the name that bugs me.

'86 Raleigh Capri-First road bike when I was 13. Still have it even though it doesn't fit.

'96 Specialized Stumpjumper M2 Comp-Bought this 8/96 after I got back into biking with a Rockhopper in 4/96. It has been my main ride for everything up until I bought...

'82 KHS Turbo-Picked this up 1.5yrs ago to see if I would like road riding, and to get miles in when I couldn't get to the trail.

'05 Giant TCR C3-After liking the KHS, I wanted a "Modern" bike. Found this last July for a very good price. Love the ride.

'07 Specialized Epic Expert-Have toyed with the idea of a full suspension MTB. Still love my Stumpy, but the F.S. is a SWEET ride. Just got this a month ago.

Wife has a 2k Trek 6000 WSD MTB, and a '04 Giant OCR3. Says they are all she needs**********?

I'm sure I'm well below-average for a BFer. I only have 3, used to be 4 but I sold my C'dale Scalpel....

2003 Specialized Enduro -- currently collecting dirt, I need to MTB more.
2007 Iron Horse road bike -- first road bike, $630 off Nashbar. This is for commuting.
2007 Specialized Roubaix Pro -- my weekend ride. Too highend for me, but I did get a crazy deal on it.

Fly Tierra BMX - once a BMX'er, always a BMX'er. Everybody should learn to bunnyhop - I couldn't imagine living a cycling life without being able to do so.

Felt El Guapo Beach Cruiser - Dog runner and chillaxing at the, well... beach.

Motobecane Outcast 29'er rigid SS - because it's like BMX, but different. It's like taking a BMX bike with gigantic wheels, climbing to the top of any mountain and riding as fast as I possibly could down it.

Motobecane Phantom Pro Ti XC MTB - because MTB'ing RULES - I'd have to say that, aside from BMX, MTB'ing has the biggest *fun factor* out of all my bikes.

Motobecane Messenger Fixed Gear - because fixed riding is fun and simple

Surly Pacer Road Bike - because I like to check out far away scenes

Specialized Rockhopper Get-Around-Town/Commuter bike SS (from 1986) - because I hate locking up any of the above mentioned in front of a store or errand run.

Un-bike - think BMX handlebars, fork, front wheel and pegs and THAT'S IT. You start off pushing off the ground and you roll around balancing on just the pegs. It's like a unicycle you don't pedal, if you can roll around in circles just using a free-hanging leg for balance without face-planting, you win.
