Remember there are real people behind screen names
This was posted in the TCR thread:
I had the same reaction. I didn't want to respond so as not to derail that thread.
But its a valid point that merits emphasis, and that I for one could stand to take to heart.

It is amazing how personal the attacks can be when, in fact, it is from one person to another that has never been met. I know that if I were to meet some of the people I've lambasted, I'd feel ashamed for some of the things I've written.

Can I get a yup on that?
Yup!
OTOH, it's kinda like NY, the locker room, where you're in when you get ribbed a little; the point, however, stands!

dmb2786 makes a good point. I like it when people post pictures of themselves in their avatars - it serves to reinforce that there are people behind the user names.
When someone makes a personal attack, or even just a joke that comes out the wrong way, it's easy to get caught up in defending one's "honor" and retaliating with an even bigger comeback. It can be tough to swallow one's pride and let the offending comment slide. I've occasionally overreacted, but I try really hard to keep it to a minimum - sometimes more successfully than others.

I am amazed at how seriously people take forum arguments. This forum in no better or worse than others I have visited.
If people actually met then most of the smack talked on the internet would lead to more than a feeling of shame. A feeling of an occasional left hook may be closer to the mark.

It's all meant to be fun, and the format makes that get a littel crazy sometimes.
Maybe BF needs a day of repentance every year, where we ask for forgiveness from everyone we have offended.
OK, might take more than a day, but still...

Actually, I had thought about adding a comment in my original post that I have not changed my avatar, simply because there's no picture I could take that would be as cool as my avatar. Kind of pathetic, isn't it?

Thick skin or no, sometimes things don't roll off that easy. We should all be more careful with our words and appreciate that we all came here because we share a common interest. Be it a casual rider, BMXer, racer, fixie, or whatever. We are all brothers and sisters.

Amen!
There's a lot of unnecessary internet muscle flexing that goes on among people who share a common interest, have something in common already, yet seem to seek out their differences to fight about. You should ask yourself: "Would I say this to this person if he were standing right in front of me?" Probably not.
Even if the other person started it I say to myself "It takes two to have an argument . . . why do I need to argue with an anonymous stranger on the internet just because we see things differently?"
Works for me.

Another solemn reminder that we all need a reality check on what we say regardless of if its jest or serious.
Sadly, things like this won't change the sentiment around these parts.

the fact that i can post what i wouldn't say face to face is what makes this place tick.
