Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

repetitive rear tube blowout?

So , i picked up a bike from my neighbor and re-inflated the rear tube to 60psi everything seemed well. went for a short ride and I could feel a lump in the rear tire while riding, e.g. a slight bounce while the rim went round. Get a little farther and pop. So I replace the tube today put in 60psi and with a very short distance the same scenario happens all over again the the tube pops.

What could be the failure mode. Bad tire? possibly, not really sure were to start.

Possible bad bead on the tire. Possible that tire was not seated on the rim correctly. Possible burr on the rim. Possible spoke poking hole in the tube. Possible mis-sized tire on the rim.... etc, etc, etc.

Something small stuck in the tire. Maybe a thorn, piece of metal, glass, etc. when you change the tube, find the hole and match it up to the location in the tire. Look for really small pieces. I had so much glass in a tire one time and I couldn't really see it without looking real hard...I just replaced the tire.

I'm certain the tire size is correct. I'll look into the other possible causes. I'm thinking it's a bad/shot tire.

Always look at the tube that pops. It will tell you about the problem. If there is a long gash/tear opening along the side then it was from overpressurization or blow out - caused by improper mounting, overpressurization (most likely not your cause), or a filing tire bead or rim.

I have a feeling you didn't mount it correctly.

Unless your tire is rated that low, you probably had a pinch flat. Plus, what everyone else said. Too many variables.

The same thing happened to me with the rear tire, and it turned out the tire was getting worn out inside and wires were starting to poke the tube.

But that's just one possibility. I'd take a look at the tire first.

Thump thump thump pow could mean a big thorn stuck in the tire. Or maybe the tire wasn't seated properly (especially if the tire was flat before you pumped it up to 60psi).

He didn't say what size of tire he had or how much he weighs. 60 PSI may be fine for some fat tires on touring bikes or cyclocross bikes.

For a skinny road bike tire, yes, 60 PSI is too low and the OP may be getting pinch flats because of that.

I had a tire that kept on blowing off the rim no matter what i did. The last time it blew out, it blew the kevlar bead out of the casing. I had to call home to get a ride.

So you may just have a bad tire that refuses to stay seated, but you have not given us enough details for a good internet diagnosis.
