Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

KHS flite is this an o.k. bike?

I bought an Electra Townie in April and have now started training for a triathlon. The Townie is great and super comfortable however it is quite slow. I really thought my back would be an issue and that's why I hadn't biked in awhile. I quickly outgrew it which I didn't think I would. My back is fantastic and I was babying it very badly. What I really want is a Trek 1.5 but will not be getting it due to price. The least expensive road bike I could find is the KHS Flite which is at the same dealership where I bought my Townie. The Jamis ventura sport is another (probably better choice) but the dealer is in a town I never go to and 90 miles away and is also somewhat more expensive. Any info would be great.

My LBS loaned me a KHS flite 320 when my alite 500 was in for a broken hanger. I specifically asked for a road bike loaner because at the time I was looking for one and what better way to test than a week of free riding? Compared to the other bikes I had ridden at the time, the KHS was nice, but not on par. I don't think they are a large manufacturer and just haven't had time and experience in that market. Regardless, I liked the bike and it would probably do well enough for you, but if you can open up the budget a little bit, I'd do just that.

I own a Flite 750. At first I was skeptical since I've never heard of them. Since then I've ridden it for around 7,000 miles including commuting, group rides, training and racing. It has achieved very well, I would definitely recommend KHS, although I don't have experience on the lower models.

Actually, KHS has been in the market a long time, and produces some nice bikes.
They were one of the first Taiwanese companies to come out with very nice chrome lugged steel frames with impeccable craftsmanship. They have also manufactured bikes for a lot of other "high end" manufacturers. I haven't checked on what they are making recently, but I wouldn't write them off.
