Quick, curved or straight forks?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Quick, curved or straight forks?

Picking up a new carbon fork to replace my aluminumnumim one that breaks my wrists on long rides.

Can get the same one curved or straight...not sure which I should go with.

2002 Trek 1000 currently with curved fork

The rake is more important and will change how the bike handles. The shape doesn't really matter too much.

I want to start racing this year, and I've heard straight forks have better response. Just want to make sure it'll still work with my bike even though I have curved on there now?

Again, it's all about how much rake, aka offset, the fork has. This will affect trail, which will affect handling. Read this and you'll understand:

That's a pretty typical amount of rake these days. As for your stock fork, look at the drawings in the link to understand how rake is derived, and you can measure the rake yourself. I would try and find a fork that's not different, as far as rake goes, from your stock fork....which is probably about 43mm.

Do keep in mind that rake can come from a fork being offset at the crown, the fork blades being curved, offset at the axle, or any combination of the three.

Not that it makes a damn bit of difference in the grand scheme of things...

Logically speaking, a curved fork should flex more on a vertical axis reletive to the bars, and therefore be more comfortable.

Whether or not there is a practical difference, I don't know. I went from curved aluminium forks to full carbon ONDA forks and the difference is amazing.
