Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kinda dumb question

This is a pretty stupid question butttt

I lost the screw to mount my shifters on an old road bike. I tried googling/searching but I don't even know what that would be called or if you can even get a replacement. I was thinking about going to a bike salvage yard (if that even exists) and finding the piece there but... if anyone could point me in the right direction thatd be cool

i feel like a boob.

i would probably just stop at a bike shop and see if they dont happen to have something that works, but on the whole it should be a pretty easy fix, sometimes its an unmatching screw that gets put into the lug to keep your shifter on, but you will probably be able to get a pretty decent solution.

The bolt thread, I believe, is 5x.8 for downtube shifter bosses. You can improvise with hardware store bolts, so long as they are the right size. You will also likely need washers if you have lost the oem screw.

Try the mechanic or vintage forum, there are people there who remember the catalogue numbers of obscure parts just for kicks!
