Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wonder why they don't sell the Tarmac SL3 frame with BB30? The only one that comes with a BB30 is the one with the crank. Not sure since most companies are making BB30 frames now.

What does BB30 do for you? I hear it is just another standard to be used for marketing. But I guess I'll see as the new frame I ordered has the BB30. I'm not expecting much difference.

It is supposedly stiffer. It looks better because of no external bearing cups. Saves weight. More ankle clearance. Problem is you have to buy a BB30 crank (which I have). I don't want to have to buy a standard crank if I bought the new frame.

BB30 is spec'ed by cannondale.

why would specialized or trek submit to cannondale even if it's an open standard?

marketing ego > better design

Specialized had always only sold the BB30 versions of their frames as modules with their crank or as complete bikes. I don't know why they won't sell it as a frameset, I think it's stupid also. Presumably it's just to sell more of their crank.
