Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A long slow grind up a couple of hills in Denali Natl Park. The busses are running now so some time was spent eating their dust but I saw 5 grizzly and a small group of sheep right on the rode that I rode between. Lots of other animals too...lions and tigers and bears. Oh My! Fat and old doesn't win the race but it gets me from here to there.

Probably because you are using the android app, mine does the same thing sometimes.

I don't get how you guys can do rides this flat, it would be wayyy too boring for me.

Some aren't lucky to live in places with climbs! Where I live, we just have short but steep hills. Any "climb" longer than 1km doesn't get any steeper than 4-5% here

Managed to fit in a 20 mile ride after work yesterday (easy out on the bike path, pushed a bit on a different hilly route coming back)

Nice ride this evening, moved up to second on one of the local climbs. Wattage is off a bit though, forgot to calibrate the power meter today. Oopsie.

Boring 81-mile out-&-back on the highway tonight: https://app.strava.com/rides/9290939 Only 17.6mph average... tonight the wind was out of the north, so I had a headwind all the way back home. At any rate, I'm only 73 miles short of the 1479-mile goal for the Nuun/Strava distance challenge, so unless I lose my Garmin, I should easily make that by the 31st. Got a team 24-hour mountain-bike race this weekend, that should net me 60 miles.

I've been pushing myself to ride in my big cog only lately (50t). Today was the first time I tried this ride. Its amazing how much faster I get through segments! I've had so many PRs and some rankings lately.

How hard is it on your iPhone data usage to use Strava? I've been wanting to start, but I figured if I did it with any regularity I'd blow my 2GB's/mo to smithereens.
Yeah, no complaints about data nor battery usage for that matter. I love Strava!

Just rolled in an hour ago. Splits here in goog earth map.

https://maps.google.com/?q=https://sha...20526-0457.kml

Just rolled about an hour ago, 46 miles at 12.95 average. I weigh 195 and the MTB is 40 all up so I'm not setting speed records. Gorgeous loop ride though bugs will get you if you stop to long in the wrong place.

I'm beat after a 47 mile solo ride today into NJ and up the river. I left way too late in the day and got the heat at it's worst.... 90 degrees when I hit the hardest climb (for me) on my route.....

Used my new Garmin Edge 500 today instead of my iPhone. It's totally rad! Hit 40mph on the downhill and it was glorious.

Ok, not road rides, but...

https://app.strava.com/rides/9442171 Laps 1 & 2 back-to-back in the 24-hour race, on a team of 7. The first lap was ok, the second one was VERY good (breaking my previous PR, which until last week was also the KOM).

https://app.strava.com/rides/9442309 Lap 3. I rode it brilliantly, hitting the afterburners in several strategic spots to get the holeshots into the singletrack sections to avoid getting bottlenecked. This took my PR down by around 50 seconds, despite having to pass tons of people.

https://app.strava.com/rides/9442399 Lap 4. My nighttime lap. This one ended up about 4 minutes off my PR, due to fatigue, cautious riding because of reports that some rock hazards that had moved on the worst descent, the fact we were now over 20 miles ahead of the competition, and just night laps being inherently slower.

And that finishes off the Nuun Twice-The-Tour Challenge! 1483 miles in 27 days.

Did American River Bike Trail Saturday morning and joined little group, we heald a steady pace considering the trail was congested with a ton of riders and did alot of weaving, which slowed the pace a little bit.

18 miles further than I've ridden before. Enjoyed it and didn't have a problem with the distance, although I'm tired now .

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/182561797

Only worry is now I'm wondering how I'd handle 150 miles ;-) Where does it end?

Ah excellent. A kindred spirit I'm a keen runner too, as well as a keen cyclist. Not enough time in the day to fit it all in
