Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was overheating in the helmet and moving half a foot side to side from the combination of stuff I was going up in (aero wheels, tribike, aero helmet). Legs were shot from the PR earlier today, HR would NOT go up and you can see the difference. 5 minutes slower on the first Strava segment (0-5mi point). Sun was blinding me in the evening. Decided to go down before I'd be riding in pitch black (which it was once I reached the bottom). But overall... I'm glad I decided to tack on the ride before I drove home back to Phoenix
DAMN!! As if a Tri isn't enough, then you throw Mt Lemmon in as well! Bravo!!!
I cant imagine a Tri bike having the best gearing to climb that, what were you running?

Mt. Lemmon is on my list of rides to do before the end of the year, then Mt Graham next year

36-23/21. Usually the 21/19 are good cogs that I go up steadily on, but yesterday wasn't one of those days.

52-11/12 on the way down. Woohoo! haha.

If you go up Mt. Lemmon in November be sure to bring a jacket. I was freezing until I got past the treeline. Warmth never ever felt that good.

Nice, can't imagine many Tri bikes going up Mt Lemmon, the descent would be fun though! You said you were on aero wheels, were they carbon clinchers or tubs?

Didn't think of a jacket but will pack one now, thanks

Any issues during the descent? I've got 38mm CCs and have done south mountain a few times without any problems, wasn't sure about taking them to Mt Lemmon, just due to the length of the descent.

Rather quiet morning on South Mountain, might have to try more mid-week rides up there.

No problems. If you're more of the cautious type descending, just remember to pump them rather than hold them for long periods of time. The only sketchy part on the downhill is this cobblestone area that's 300ish ft long. Can shake your bottles loose!

I also have a few "nothing special" rides. They were actually frustratingly slow - but they're meant to be social rides. So if I'm going to continue these rides I'll have to learn to be more sociable while riding, and just enjoy being out there.

Social-pace "Lights & Pizza" Rides:
https://app.strava.com/rides/23933017
https://app.strava.com/rides/24621486
https://app.strava.com/rides/25340040

They're group rides that run after dark, and will go through winter. Night riding is way cool...

Duncan,

Rides look nice. I'm in the neighborhood and would like to possibly join in. Can you send me a bit of info such as start location, time, etc.

Nice riding with you this morning, especially after you rode yesterday.
Wanted to get to 100, but came up a bit short today:

https://app.strava.com/rides/25706012

Still my longest ride so far.

Yea, really felt the wind on that 2nd loop up to Shea. I hit a PR for the segment up, which I knew meant trouble coming back down. Usually I just fly down from Shea, but that downhill part was into a tough headwind. The worst was from Gilbert to McKellips.

I saw the PR and figured the turn around was going to be a pain, even though its down hill a head makes it tough and takes the fun out of it

I was out in that area doing the Shea climb... I was heading east toward the 87... and got to the descent... I'm a fatty and bomb down descents... and with wind **** kicked me from 30+mph to 14-15mph.

The wind proceeded to destroy me heading south on the 87, and took all the fun out of that ride that day.

FUUUU wind.

Good ride though.
