Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bought used wheels... looks like something's missing (???)

I'm no expert, but I just got these Mavic Ksyrium wheels in the mail today and there seems to be something missing on the rear wheel, opposite the free hub. I bought them on eBay and need to know what's up.

Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something important here???

Thanks,

There is a cap that goes over there. When you wan't to take the wheel a part you pull that cap off and put a 10mm hex wrench up in there, then a 5mm in the other side. I hope you could get to a shop and order one because you are screwed with out it.

And FAIL.

Or perhaps UNFAIL. I looked on the plastic shipping plug and low and behold... there it was. So, all's good!

not your brand, but the axle is part B (skewer goes in the axle)

Sooooo... I'm still missing an axle??? How can I be sure the Mavic Ksyriums have this axle as pictured above?

shine a light and look through the hole in it. it should be only large enough to fit a skewer. if it is much larger, no axle.

better yet take a picture for us where we can see through the hole.

I found a link to the Mavic dealer service page and it shows a cutaway view of the rear hub. I'm good to go! The axle is in place and this bit I found on the packing disc actually fits into the axle and is secured only by an o-ring.

Weird, but I'm all set. Thanks to all those who replied!

Awesome pic in your sig. Rick James messing up the Murphy's couch with his muddy boots. I think the Prince skit was even funnier.
