Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Who Likes Pearl Izumi Shoes?

I have wide feet, and if you do, you know my pain if finding
shoes that fit.
I went the Lake route, but their toebox is too narrow, even in their wide shoes.
Seems like Pearl Izumis have a wide toe box, but here in Tampa, or New Tampa,
it's hard to find stores that carry them.
Any other brands/model you know of that have a wide toe box?
Any opinions and experiences with Pearl Izumi brand?
Thanks.

I own some cheap PI MTB shoes. Have ridden road in them for a little over a year; they don't fit that great, but they were dirt cheap and fit well enough for a while. . I wouldn't say their toe box runs wide.

I need a wide toe box, and have one fit wider than the other. I, too, have tried Sidi, PI, and Lake. Nothing fit. I tried Sidi megas and Wides in the Lakes. The Lakes were close, but the wide was too big all over.

Tried on the full line of Specialized shoes today, since I've consistently heard they have a wide toe box. Walked out with a good deal on a pair of last year's Pro Carbon shoes. Fit one foot perfect, and the other quite well. Haven't ridden them yet, but this is probably as good as I'm going to get without custom shoes.

Short story: I agree that the specialized lines do seem to have more room across the ball of the foot.

I had a pair of defective Specialized shoes that allowed the cleat screw to come up to far. It wasn't that noticable but it ended up leaving me with a cracked bone in my foot. I contacted Specialized about it and they said that it wasn't their problem. I told my local shop owner about it and he said that it couldn't have been because of the shoe. About three months later he called me to apologize and told me that he had a cracked bone in his foot from his Specialized shoes and that Specialized still said that it wasn't their problem. We both had the same shoes, same size but we used different pedals so it wasn't caused by any particular pedal.

I have wide feet and they get hot in most shoes. I like my Pearl Izumis a lot, they are made of some sort of mesh that keep my feet cool, close with velcro straps and feel just right. I could wear them all day, they're that comfortable.

That's the first time I've heard of that, and it is definitely of concern.

I'm currently using the S-Works shoe, which model did you have?

These were S-Works but it was five years ago or so, most likely you have no reason to be concerned. However it was enough to keep me from ever owning another pair, I still have pain in my foot from it. I probably should have had the problem corrected the right way years ago but the idea of staying off of my feet / bike for weeks or months just didn't sound good to me at the time.

After taking 1 1/2 years off of the bike for knee surgeries (4 of them) I am having a tough time finding shoes that fit now. My feet are absolutely killing me especially where the cracked bone was. I've gained so much weight that my old sidi's are a little tight on me so I purchased a pair of PI's to hold me over. They aren't bad but they aren't great either.

I have a pair of PI shoes, and they are not superwide nor supernarrow, though probably a little more on the wide side of things. They seem to have more overall volume in the toebox but a lot of that feels like height not width.
