Bottecchia bike owners
I have a Bottecchia CF 662 I bought over a year ago wondered if others like theirs as much as I do? I have 4000 miles and it has been great I did upgrade the brakes to ultra from cane creeks but the CC were still good. I also put an 11-23 cassette on and the tires are now Vred tri comps much better. I just think for the money I still cannot do as well anywhere else. The wheels are a little heavy but the Vulta xrps are solid never needed to even true them they are true as day one. The bike weighs 21 pounds for a 61 cm and 2 h2o cages.
I know some dislike the these Bikes for whatever reasons but just wonder how others like theirs? I had road an AL frame with a CF but this is so much better. It is a stiff frame I think others have said but I like the ride. I just wonder do bikes costing more really ride that much better? I just can think of CF bike with ultegra fr & rear derailers and 105 brifters, that would a better deal but I can wrench my own bikes.

I'm about to buy a CF79 maybe. I've added up the price of components, mostly Dura Ace, and think the deal is hard to beat. I'm hearing rumbles of criticism of the Bottecchia brand but nothing specific. Glad to hear you like yours.

BD specializes in cheap frames with mostly nice parts hung on them, but some of their bikes seem to be good deals. 21lb carbon? Not so sure about that one.

It is your money, it is your ride, it is your life.
You could buy the finest bike in the world, with the finest components ever made and there is always going to be a few naysayers finding fault with your steed.
One of the things that always bothers me about bicycling is the degree of snobbery exhibited by some (but not all) riders. Bicycling is for fun and people ought to stop obssessing about the latest and greated frame or piece of equipment and just freaking ride!
I have a 1989 Bottecchia and I love it. I recently bought a used Litespeed that I am beginning to love as well. If I had a few spare liras (sorry, that would be Euros now) lying around, I would buy a CF Bottecchia from BD, just to round out my stable.
Last year my oldest daughter bought a Dawes from BD. Yes, it is not an "original" Dawes, but who cares? With a couple of parts upgrades (from my parts drawer) it has turned into a fine ride. My daughter had never previously ridden a road bike. Within a couple of months after getting her bike she completed her first century. Along the way she passed a bunch of riders riding bikes costing 10x, 15x, even 20x more than what she paid for her bike.
Which goes to prove, as if proof was really necessary, that it is not the bike so much as the "engine" attached to that bike that makes all the difference.
I guess this is a long way to go to say: enjoy your CF Bot!

MY CF79 Comes Today!
I ordered one last week and the brown truck comes this afternoon. I'm going to take my time and assemble myself - perhaps I'll let the LBS guy do a final dial in on the brakes and derailleurs but I've been doing a lot of my own wrenching and I think it will help my familiarity with the bike.
I also plan to video the assembly process and post to Youtube so watch this thread for announcements. Anybody wanna buy a GT Rage with almost all Dura Ace? Served me well for 15 years and is a smooth ride.

If you like the bike and the price is right, then keep on enjoying it. Who gives a rat's ass what others think?

See a new Bottecchia assembled in 9 minutes flat!
Got my new Bottecchia CF79 and I videotaped the assembly process, then sped it up by 5x. Youtube video at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1NIbRgzZoM
A little fuzzy due to multiple transcodings - I'm going to do a video review and will post soon. Hopefully better quality.

So this guy gets a new bike, he is happy with his new bike, he tapes himself putting his new toy together, he shares the video wiht the rest of us...and that makes him a shill?
A shill is defined as:
A person engaged in covert advertising. The shill attempts to spread a buzz by personally endorsing the product in public forums with the pretense of sincerity, when in fact he is being paid for his services.
Who is this guy shilling for? Bottecchia bikes? The eBay company that sells Bottecchia bikes? Bad, cheesy cycling clothing?

yeah a bit heavy for a carbon bike considering an aluminum bike can be had probably cheaper and lighter. My aluminum bike weighs 17lbs and I haven't gone the weight weenie road at all.
