Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

cyclist hit by car then thugs steal his bike!

Man, this is low:

https://www.kmbc.com/news/25120575/detail.html

"As Hardy laid in the street, his bike was taken to the side of the street. He said he tried to keep an eye on it while the firefighters and paramedics.
That's when thieves nonchalantly tested the bike to ensure it worked and then took off with it. These were the same men who had checked on Hardy immediately after the crash."

Wow. If there is any such thing as the "right time" to steal someone's bike, this certainly isn't it. That's terrible.

That would have made me suspicious right there. If someone needs paramedics, the bike can wait at least a day to be checked out.

edit: And where do I find this deal?
Because Hardy and his friends had worked on building the perfect racing bike, Hardy estimates its value at $1,200.

What a sleazy thing to do! Stealing a bike is always low, but the only way this could have been much worse is if the driver had hit the guy to take his bike...

I don't understand why the paramedics didn't become suspicious as they walked back and forth to retrieve equipment from the truck. Even though the thieves appeared a good distance from the camera, one can tell they are up to no good from their slouchy thug-like demeanor. They are clearly waiting around, hands in pockets, looking for a score. The paramedics were not in a rush, they might have taken notice, grabbed the bike and thrown it in back of their truck.

It's happened before.

But I disagree, much worse would have meant he died or was left permanently crippled.

Maybe the thieves were just trying to follow the usual BF advice to "flip it"?

But, yeah, that's a real bad day.

No comments yet on the rest of the story?
The car's driver told police she was driving north on Holmes and began to turn west onto 30th Street.
"While turning, she heard a 'thump' and saw her windshield was broke in," according to the police report.
Witnesses told her she had struck a bicyclist.
How frickin' clueless do you have to be to hit a bike in broad daylight, in such a way that it busts your windshield, and still have no clue what happened?

That sucks. A friend of mine was in a motorcycle wreck a few years back. The first citizens on the scene "to see if he was okay" stole his watch.

I hope the rider's going to recover. If you're hurt that bad, a stolen bike is really the least of your worries.

seriously? follow me on my commute and see if you can keep count of all the suspicious characters

i know a guy whose motorcycle was stolen from an accident scene. he swears he saw the police load it onto a flatbed tow truck as he was loaded into the ambulance, but when he was released from the hospital no one could find any record of the bike being towed.

Probably not a state thing.
Trashy is when she's wearing a tube top and cut off jeans tattered at the ends standing on the trailer porch with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth while she's screaming "Take his a$$ to jail!".
Thats trashy.

First off, I doubt those are paramedics on the engine. Secondly, their job is to diagnose, stabilize, and then transport. If someone has time to take care of the bike, that's nice, but if not, they've still done their job.

There was this story in sfgate.com "Weird News" from the AP; this guy named Leroy's girlfriend was steppin out, and he torched her hotpants, then the trailer caught on fire and burned down. That was in Arkansas.
