Market value of used drivetrain components?
hey guys,
what would be a reasonable price for the following set (w/o parting out):
Ultegra STI shifters
Ultegra rear deraileur
Ultegra triple chainring
Ultegra 9spd cassette
Ultegra Bottom Bracket
105 Brakes
105 Front Deraileur (clamp-on)
roommate's interested in building a bike as i build mine and he's shown interest in transferring my drivetrain components over for his build, granted everything fits. I was thinking of using funds to go to a dura-ace or record upgrade The drivetrain components have about 800-900 miles on them and were bought about 2.5 months ago. Thanks guys

Market Value...now there's a chasm if ever one existed!
Market value is the price a person is willing to pay...
I'm just having a good chuckle, because I'm an appraiser
and market value isn't always what something is actually worth.
I am constantly amazed at how much people will over pay for something
based purely on their perception. Anyway, I know what you were getting at,
I'm just having a bit of fun with it.
Some real good examples are on ebay, I see merchandise on there that is going and bought for more than you can buy new, at a store. Crazy..I tell you!

In reality, Market Value can be any price a buyer is willing to pay. Which sometimes is over
and way above what the actual cost is. Perceived value is what we are talking about here.
Market Value is supposed to be a Fair price that a willing buyer and willing seller agree to, which is supposed to be at a reasonable cost. But its muddy, because what you deem to be
fair, I may not, etc...
Perception is really the key to establishing and maintaining so called fair market value.

I am amazed at how many dolts buy stuff on ebay for inflated prices.

Now we are talking the insurance game..
Insurable Reproduction Cost New (IRCN)-
is the cost of reproducing a new replica of a property on the basis of current prices with the
same or closely similar materials with any inadequacies.
Replacement Cost New (RCN)-
is the current cost of a similar new property having the nearest equivalent utility as the property being appraised.
Diminished Value (Loss of Value)-
is the loss in a damaged vehicle's market value after repairs have been completed.
Actual Cash Value (ACV)-
What it will cost to replace an item at the time of loss after subtracting depreciation. Common method of determining the amount of reimbursement for a loss.
Stated Value (SV)-
A monetary worth figure that bears no relation to market value that is assigned, for accounting purposes, to stock for use instead of par value.
Market Value (FMV)-
is the estimated amount expressed in terms of money that may reasonably be expected for property in exchange between a willing buyer and a willing seller with equity to both, neither acting under any compulsion to buy or sell and both fully aware of all relevant facts as of a specific date.
There are many ways to value something, and each is not an exact science.
It is, interesting at times though.

There's a fool out there somewhere--quite possibly your roommate. (But even more, being a Campy man, I'd consider myself a fool for even considering the purchase of Shimao Ultegra! Well, okay, I'll admit that I'd pay $500 for a full brand-new Dura-Ace groupo. )

I'd challenge anybody to find a classified ad or listing for a similiar group with only 2 months worth of use for $250. Being a deal hound myself, I know it's out there, but that would be the exception rather than the rule. And if you really want to get confused on perceived value, check the completed listings pages on EBAY.
$500+ for a new set is a discounted price. $650-700 is more the normal or MSRP. So, 1/2 that is $325-350.

dammit
my roommate saw this thread and the guy saying $250 lol :|
looks like i'll be selling the whole bike instead, combining that with what I have, and going orbea orca w/ record or dura-ace, and wheels to be determined.
thanks for the input though

In Contrast eBay is the best place to SELL your used equipment. To get the most from your components, I would sell each item individually. The accumulative dollar value you would get from a handful of the most desireable parts would likely be more that you could sell the entire groupset.
