Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Colorado Cyclist is good, too, in the Competitive Cyclist mold.

Real Cyclist/BackCountry.com/BonkTown.com/... are good.

Cambria Bike Outfitters, Tree Fort Bikes are also both great. I've gotten good service from ModernBike.com, too.

And for bargains, troll the returns at Nashbar.

UK sites? PBK, Ribble, TotalCycling.com, Chain Reaction Cycles.

Competitive Cyclist hands down. You could buy a $10k bike, run it over with your car and return it within 60 days for a no questions asked full refund (not that you would do that).

They're the best company I've ever purchased anything from

I've placed 3 orders with PBK in the last two weeks and think they're great. Ribble has some of the best prices. I'm still awaiting delivery on two of the PBK items, so I've likely just jinxed myself.

Gear and Training

Great guys, they screwed up my order and gave me a better product for much less. Small operation but good and honest people to deal with.

So what about your lbs? I live in small town Ohio and my local bike shop has some decent gear but no real selection and the prices range on the high side. I like to support them as much as possible but I appreciate the responses here.

I would love to buy from my LBS simply cause i'd get my items quicker. Only problem is i can't justify spending retail price for an item when i can get on the internet for less and save a considerable amount of money. Yes i have to wait for it in the mail but i'm saving a good amount of money. That pretty much goes for anything i buy nowadays, blu-ray movies and other electronics i pretty much buy online only simply cause its cheaper. Unless i know the big box store has the specific item i want on sale i'll go there, but other than that i'm buying online.

Chain Reaction Cycles and Shinky Bikes are pretty awesome. LBS prices can sometimes be twice the amount and to make matters worst they can be quite judgmental.

I've had security issues with PricePoint. Their customer service wasn't helpful at all in getting it resolved. I'll buy elsewhere if the price difference isn't too great, but sometimes they have great prices. When I do buy from them now, it's always with a disposable credit card.

I've bought stuff from JensonUSA.com and been very satisfied.

My new favorite overseas dealer.... For most other stuff I need in a hurry I tend to go with BikeTiresDirect.com. Since I live so close I always get it next day with UPS Ground and free shipping as long as I spend $100 or more. Plus the points add up.

I buy what I can from my LBS. However, they often don't have what I want/need. They offer to order it, but honestly, that does me little good. I can order stuff myself. If they have it stock though, I will buy it from them.

Competitive Cyclist. Not the cheapest, but the service is incredible. Bought my Cervelo and countless other things from them. I might bargain hunt with some things, but when I need something in a timely fashion with the best service out there, it's CC.

The international shops are good for price from time to time, but delays in customs, hard-to-reach customer service, etc quickly offset the savings.

a few of my favorites are:

bikeisland- free shipping on everything, they normally have great prices, located in TX USA so you get things fast. only bad thing i can say about them is they dont have everything you might need.

bonktown- great prices, reasonable and fast shipping, negatives would be you have to watch the site and you never really know what they will have (kinda but not really)

ribble- great prices and have most things im looking for, negatives would be shipping cost and time.

stealthcycling- has the weight weenie stuff at ok prices

fairwheels- has all the weight weenie stuff for just a few bucks more

all also add if i were buying a bike online i would definitely buy from competitive cyclist.

So you just happen to be from TX, and 2 of your 3 posts are comments about how awesome Texas Cyclesport is. Hm....

RealCyclist. You can return anything (even after wearing--like shoes, for example) within 30 days of purchase date. It also credits your account when you bring said return package to UPS store and scan it.

So far I've had great luck at finding awsome deals using the "shopping" link on Google search. If you're looking for a particular item, type it in the search box, then when the results come in, click on the "shopping" tab on the left hand side of the screen. It will list several online stores so you can compare prices. I got a great deal on a set of Easton EC 90 TT wheelset using the feature.
