Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best way to stabilize camera - Kodak Zi8

So I am trying to take some video with my new Kodak Zi8 during a charity ride for the American Cancer Society in July. I previous took some video with my canon point and shoot camera mounted to my handlebars with a homemade camera mount (used these instructions: https://content.photojojo.com/diy/att...-to-your-bike/) and it worked well, but that was when the point and shoot was a bit lower profile. The Zi8 is a bit taller so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to mount and stabilize the camera for the upcoming ride so that with the image stabilization on the camera, I won't give anyone the Blair Witch treatment. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

You can't do much. It's not like you can put a shock on it or anything.

I've seen a couple biking videos, some from mounted, and some from helmet cameras.

I find that when it's on the helmet, your head stabilizes and allows the camera to have smooth footage.

I would say, use a bike with shocks, lower tire pressure, and you might want to tighten you headset so that you can't jerk your handlebars. That's the best I can do.

It's going to be hard completely eliminating shakes, but botbyte gave some good advice.
This is the mount I use, even cheaper than your homemade mount which has a suggested
price of $10

Used with a compact/pocket point and shoot camera(Olympus Stylus 820),
mounted on the handlebars of my roadbike - 700 X 25 tires, 120psi:

Same mount with a bridge camera(Samsung HZ30W), bigger than a compact but smaller
than a true DSLR camera. Same bike, same position:

I use the Kodak Playsport Zx3, which has a similar form factor to the Zi8. I use a Pedco UltraClamp to mount it to my handlebars. Here's a video recorded on a ride that was mostly flat to downhill, so speeds are higher. Tires are 700x28c 110-115 psi. It should give you a pretty good idea of what your video may look like:

Thanks for the replies... I might just keep my Zi8 in my shirt pocket and take ad hoc video with it and use my Canon point and shoot again. I will try the Zi8 on the regular mount this weekend when the weather is better and see how it goes. Those newer mounts look nice!
