Best way to sell a bike?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best way to sell a bike?

I've sold via eBay. I've sold via Craigslist. Is there another avenue for selling a bike out there that I'm missing? The traditional outlets seem kind of slow right now.

eBay has become much more user-friendly with very low listing fees. Unfortunately, buyer traffic seems way off. (and shipping a full bike is a hassle.)

Ask the flippers in the Classic and Vintage forum.

If business is slow, try lowering your prices or improving your ads. Or just ride it out. eBay and CL are the two biggest methods of selling a bike. Or you could post ads on college bulletin boards and the local thrifty nickel. Spam the local cycling club that you belong to. Well, check to see what their rules are about posting sales.

selling it at the right time of the season/year. I have a feeling the middle of summer might be the slow time, because everyone is out riding. My theory is that the best time is spring and just before college starts.

If you are in a bike club, or know someone who is. My club has a e-mail system where a person can put whatever on a for sale list/pictures, and it goes to everyone in the club. It has to be priced right as most of the club members have a good idea of what cycling items go for.

The best way is to leave the country...Spain is nice...leave your bike at Costco or sears warehouse...post your amazing bike on craigslist at a ridiculously low price!

9.2% official and 17% real unemployment has a way of making things slow and not just on CL and scambay.

As for scambay, bike shipping has gotten totally out of hand. I have seen up to $180 to ship a bike in the lower 48! What the heck are they having their butler pack and drive it over to your house? These high costs have made me less likely to buy off scambay. CL has been a total looser for me selling. Everyone thinks the price you post is a figment of what they should pay, even when your asking price is more than fair.

Some LBS's will sell used bikes but usually take 30% of the final price. Not common but some do it.
