When you can just road out a time trial bike.
Not even a pig; with an aluminum cockpit, cheap brakes and pedals, a first generation wired powertap with training tires and a wide range cassette it comes in at exactly 18 pounds, it's ~16 with race wheels (yeah, the powertap is that ****ing heavy). It's an odd beast though, the super short chainstays (385mm) plus the slack headtube (71.8) make for a bike that sprints like a rocket while smoothly apexing down the canyons, and then feeling slightly awkward for everything in between.

RoadBikeAction magazine mentioned something like that. Specialized engineers were inspired when they "retrofitted" a Specialized Transition bike with drop bars.
Looks cool. Maybe folks could build up ghetto AeroRoad bikes by slapping drops and [zero?]setback seatpost and box rims.

I did exactly the same thing. I saw those Kestrel triathlon bikes set up with drop bars on the BikesDirect web site for the last couple of years and thought they looked really cool. Road Bike Action did an issue a while back where they compared speed around a car race track with aero and non-aero bikes, ridden by some kind of tt champion, and the aero bikes were significantly faster. So I bought a NOS Cyfac Le Mythique on Ebay for about 12 cents on the dollar and moved wheels and a Record group from another bike onto it. It rides fantastically.

That is heavy, ugly, and breaks the uci 3:1 rule. Not that I care too much about rules, seeing as my aero road bike is 13.5lbs with race wheels on.

Anyway, I thought these looked cool and it's what led me to the Cyfac.

Why do people get upset at stuff like this. So somebody had the time, inclination and money to customize his bike. Since he bothered to do it, I'm guessing he's just as in to his bike as you are with yours. And if you are worried he 'corrupted the soul' of it or some crap like that remember: That frame is a piece of plastic that was popped out of a mold. It was produced to make somebody some money. Notice the advertising plastered all over that ****er?

It's completely UCI compliant down to the saddle setback, nothing illegal about it.
And it handles really well actually, it feels very odd at low speeds, but once I'm actually riding it's not much different than anything else.
