Will my white saddle turn yellow?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Will my white saddle turn yellow?

I like the white Specialized Avatar Expert on my new white bike. White saddles on Ebay often have a yellowish tint. Does this mean white saddles will not stay white over time?

Thanks,
Jim

Correct, white saddles and bar tape do not stay white.
They need frequent cleaning.

Black is better IMO.

No. I suspect what you're seeing is badphoto. Yet, I don't store my bikes in the sun or weather, that might make a big difference.

Will you be leaving your bike in the sun?

Shouldn't be a problem, just wipe it down every once in awhile.

unless you pee on your seat regularly (once or twice is ok)...it should not turn yellow.

Depends on the quality.
If you leave it in the sun it'll stain it yellow.

If you ride with jeans it'll get stained blue.
Just make sure you wipe it down every couple rides even if you don't see a stain... because once the stain's on, it's a poopy job to get it off.

Thanks all. Sounds like at least there's hope it will stay white so I won't buy spares right now (not cheap).

So how does your seat turn brown? Aren't you supposed to take a break on those centuries?

Be careful what you clean it with. I had a white saddle that got a little dirty, so I cleaned it and it actually darkened the material. Grayish, though, not yellow.

Now that I have a newer white saddle, anybody want to recommend something to clean it with? Simple Green and 409 killed my last one.

when i had a white saddle, I use zip orange degreaser from home depot. I love that stuff and use it on everything. I'm surprised I haven't sprayed it on my salad yet. seriously that jug has lasted me 8 years and I use it for cleaning my cars, my bike, house hold stuff...you name it!

its especially great for wiping down the bike. Any grime, dirt, oil or grease gets wiped off with ease. leaves it shiny and clean and then I use a spray wax right after. Then once a month I wax it with a paste.

That depends. Are you a triathlete?

Seriously, though: I've had them discolor from clothes and dirt, but not yellow.

What I've seen white saddles do is the white dye can rub off, especially if you sweat a ton. Then you have dark grey spots.
