Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First race this weekend, any tips?

This is my first cycling race:

https://www.breastcancermarathon.com/...62_with_donna/

All I know is that I need protein at the end. Any other tips? I want to crush souls. I think a BF member or a friend of theirs won last year.

What gearing is required for this part of the race?

"Participants will .. meander through the neighborhoods of Fort Caroline .."

You need to find someone to draft. Goad them into taking the lead, then jump on their wheel to conserve your energy for the final sprint. If there's any doubt, jam a pump in their spokes as you pass.

Between now and then, you need to practice on the MUP.

Got my bib number. The lady doing the packet pickup said "it's not like the Tour de France." I told her she is incorrect.

I've just spent the last 20 minutes reading about the hydra-pouch. here.

On their site, there is this commercial where everyone fails miserably at trying to drink water out of a paper cup. It's awesome. Remember that movie, 'Airplane?' It's like everyone in their little commercial has a "drinking problem." I LOVE infomercials where people all of a sudden can't do basic everyday tasks anymore.

I will not be purchasing a hydra-pouch.

Well, they come in 5 colors, and they're a steal for only $14! Plus, won't it be nice to finally not throw water all over yourself when you try to drink it?!!?!?!?! It almost pays for itself!

Triathletes poo and piss themselves, but god forbid they get some Gatorade on their shirts.

In that commercial, they show everyone pouring water from a cup into their hydra pouches. So you mean these people can't get the water into their mouths without getting it everywhere and spilling half of it, but they can each pour it into their little hydra-cup without spilling a drop?

Plus, who can't finish a swig of water in 1 or 2 swigs?

Plus, it kinda looks like a sex toy.

I'm getting worked up over this thing. I wish it didn't exist.
