Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cervelo S2 w/ Ultegra for $2k.

My buddy just got an RS and I took a spin ride on an S2. 2011 model. The guy at the shop was willing to honor the $1k off for me for the remainder of the month. The S2 in question was full Ultegra, MSRP of $4,000. They were selling it at $3,200, and then after the $1,000 discount, an even further discount he offered, and free stuff, it came out to about $2,000.

I guess I'm just looking for feedback, as I'm skeptical, because with the current buy 2 deal, is this even really THAT good of a deal? Any suggestions as to comparable alternatives at that price point? The only thing I've really considered otherwise is a BH Prisma from my team shop, which would run slightly more expensive ($200-$300) more than the S2.

Thanks for your input.

Just noticed you were in the SD area, it was actually at one of the Trek Superstores! Too bad there's hardly any other Cervelo dealers relatively close to me.

well if your getting a deal like that from Trek SS, its not from the Vista store....they don't like to hand out deals. I like the one down near Kerny, though I'm closer to vista.

If you like the S2, $2000 for a bike with a $4000 list price is a good deal. If you prefer the HB Prisma better, then don't choose the other bike to save $300.

I'm basically trying to just convince myself into going and getting it, suppose I just wanted a little validation. I suppose N+1 should be enough validating! I know it's a pretty good deal. Thanks for the input everyone.

do it! my LBS had a 2011 S2 w/ Ultegra, but it was still MSRP + $1k off with the buy 2 bikes deal. I ordered the 2012 with Rival for $1800 instead

Cool, really just wanted to make sure that most were giving $1k off MSRP, not reducing it by almost $1k and then applying the Cervelo 2 for 1 deal. Sounds like it's a better deal than anything else I'd find.

Gonna go take it for another spin and purchase tomorrow!

That's a smoking deal. Jump on it before they say they made a mistake. I have a brand new 2010 S2 with full Ultegra sitting in my den since purchase. Now wondering how much it's worth.

Out of curiosity, where did you purchase that bike (city/region will be fine if you don't want to disclose the actual bike shop name)?

If you need convincing then maybe it isn't the bike you want. That said the S2 is a great bike and with Ultegra for $2K is not bad at all considering the comparables in that price range. If you really like the BH then see where you can get a good deal on it, but don't settle for something just because it's a good deal. I suspect if you got the S2 you would love it once you ride it. I've ridden the S2 and the R3 and really liked both, I ended up buying an Orbea Orca because I liked the ride quality just as much...not that I'm trying to influence you to buy from a Basque bike company of course...

As great as the deal is and as much as I like the bike, that front cable entrance into the frame for internal routing looks horrible. Enjoy the bike tho

San Diego area, specifically the Trek Superstore in Chula Vista.

You're telling me! It's driving me nuts. I may be forced to mount my computer on the handlebars instead of the stem, no good.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I am very glad I went with the red cages/pedals/tape!

I can imagine. I would play around with the cables so they are not sticking up so much. Maybe have them exit the bar tape on the bottom of the handlebar and shorten the housing so it kind of runs along either side of the stem. The only problem that could come up is extra friction if the cable is bent to much. I don't remember the brand but I've seen a bike where the cables enter on each side of the head tube, near the front. it looks very clean. Wish Cervelo did that.
