Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I can afford twinkies, therefore I cannot afford light bikes. Doh!

Nice, I'll remember that quote for sure.

Though to be fair, the only people I know my age that can afford a ~$7-10k bike tend to be sponsored, or have a father that owns a bike shop!

edit: "According to Bicycling mag (p57) this month, every pound over your ideal weight costs you 15 to 20 seconds per mile on a climb. You might as well buy that time back."

lolwut? What do you define as "ideal"? That's a pretty subjective word right there. For example, my ideal weight is "more than I weigh now". Yes, I'm trying to gain, as I've been stuck at 145 forever.

It probably means the weight you should be around to be the healthiest. Barring your body fat is low as well.

The lowest amount you can weigh without having your power drop. Weight loss has diminishing returns when you have to eat 1k calories a day to maintain it and have no energy for riding.
