now that i have a great bike should i buy shoes and clips?
Hello everyone. I have made terrific progress since starting on a marin hybrid in january to my new felt chipolte/carbon road bike. I did 42 miles this past thursday. Im averaging 25-30 4 to 5 times a week. This new felt enables me to stay on the road alot longer and my speed has gone from 12-14mph to about 16-18mp. Im wondering if some good riding shoes and clips would be the next purchase for me? if so...where do i start,as there seems to be lots of choices. Im not intending to race.I just want to squeeze every drop of efficency out of my rides and get better at it.
thanx mike

Mos def get shoes, & pedals!
Do your best to go & try/test a few out, just as you would a bike, the ones that fit the best are the ones you want.
I luv my carbon sole Specialized BG carbon pro's. They're speed cleats, but work well when I do the daily grind.
I also have Shimano with look pedals that I use when I train, the carbon sole are great on these too.
I don't wear them while I commute since I don't want to thrash the sexy carbon sole.

consider spd instead of spd-sl pedals if you want to walk around. $35 for the pedals, about $80 for the shoes on amazon.

Absolutely, I recently commuted to school with out my shoes and I was amazed how incredibly less efficient my pedal stroke was.

yes, i sometimes commute on regular shoes (i can still use the SPD-SL since i don't have huge feet) and i can feel the difference.
