I don't consider my first and only flat to date to be a puncture, but this one was close. I don't know when it happened, but I noticed it when I was moving all the parts over from my caad9 to my Look 595. What do you think caused it? Looks like a clean slice through the tread that just grazed the casing. It also shaved some of the rubber off the sidewall casing, as you can see. I'm thinking it was a piece of glass. Not sure what else would cause a cut like this.
I only had like 250-300 miles on the tire too. I just started using Vittoria Corsa Evo CXs this year. The ride they offer is sublime, but based on how quickly the tread was wearing, it's obvious that the rubber used in this tire just isn't meant to resist cuts. It's making me think I should go back to Conti GP4000s or try Pro Race 4s. Then again, whatever caused this cut could have easily sliced through either of those tires as well. Maybe, maybe not.

Glad you caught it. Kinda odd that there is no damage to the tread itself (from what I can see).

Throw the stick!!!!
You are going to your second (at least) frameset and you have yet to have a puncture? Holy crap!!!

OP, I see this sort of slice in my sidewalls from time to time. In my experience, it has been caused by riding into channels, for example, the edge of a grid cover, and there's something sharp on there. That or you were just unlucky and caught a flint or piece of glass just at the wrong angle.
Definitely time for a new tyre. I can recommend the GP4000Ss, as can many on here , FWIW.
