Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Favorite magnetic Trainer?

Thinking about buying one and looking to see what others have found works well.

Magnetic? No.

Why not fluid? I loved my Kurt Kinetic Road Machine.

I have one of these https://www.1upusa.com/product-trainer.html Again not magnetic, but super quiet and great feeling resistance. Made in the USA is also a big bonus for me.

I bought an old Cyclops from my neighbor for $20. Works fine.

Is the traing on these good? I've never been on one and it may be something I could use at the fire station. I would think traing on one of these is different than training on a traditional cardio bike in the gym??

I have a Cycleops mag trainer and it works fine. I have a few of the CTS workout DVD's and it gives me a great workout. I would imagine that a fluid trainer is nice, but my mag trainer works well. I prefer to ride on the road if at all possible so I'm not interested in spending a bunch of money on any trainer. Its nice to have a computer that captures on your back wheel, and for me having cadence is a big deal as well.

A few teams in the pro peloton still use magnetic trainers such as Tacx, so they're not all bad. They offer higher resistance than fluid trainers.

Trainers are much better, you get to use your bike, get a more natural feel to the ride.
