Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weekend Cycling Ride Reports - 15/16

This weekend snuck up on me ... seems like it was just last weekend a few moments ago. So, it's the middle of September and in this part of the world, the temperatures are still warm, but the leaves are starting to turn and there are signs of autumn. Tell us about your rides this weekend, and if you are in the northern hemisphere, post some fall foliage photos (if the leaves are changing in your area).

Friday - 16.33 km cycling out to campground near Bordeaux

Saturday - lots of walking

Sunday - most likely another cycling day

Thursday was a 30 mile ride. Then a local fall festival on Friday (unfortunately no beer), then a day with the kids on Saturday. Sunday is a planned 60+ mile ride with my neighbor with a planned lunch stop at a lakefront pub for lunch. The lunch is 35 miles in, so I may try to push him to a century as we should be well fueled. Time is the only limiting factor when I have a 2 year old and a 2 month old waiting at the house with my wife. I have to pick and choose my battles extremely wisely.....

Beautiful weekend to disappear on a bike in Columbus, OH this weekend.

I did a 200k brevet today, reasonably nice weather, though overcast all day.

Wednesday, I was up in Colorado for the Last Chance 1200k. Long story there, but anyway, I got just a few miles out and DNF'ed due to vision problems in the blowing rain. I shoulda stayed home and rode my favorite 200k perm 6 days in a row. Oh well. (Oh, the "Long Story" version is on bikejournal.com, under the Randonneuring thread.)

Rode 33 miles on Saturday on "The Beast" my 32 lb. Trek hybrid. My road bike feels so much faster and easier to ride after riding my hybrid but is was a lot of fun and work. No ride on Sunday.

Friday 14th 50 km after work before dark. Thought sunset would be later. Was back a little too late (or should have brought lights)
Saturday 15th 50km in the morning. Trying out my new Fizik Antares saddle so got off a couple of time to adjust.
Sunday 16th cycling with a friend. I will let him decide tomorrow where he wants to go. At our pace, I have a 1.5 hour, 2 hour and 3 hour option for him to choose from.

Rode my usual Saturday morning ride with my brother and a new riding friend. We 85 km on wet roads due to the recent overnight downpour. It is a wet, monsoon weekend and I was lucky to get my Saturday ride. But, Sunday does not look promising.

Did a little over 40 miles today. Tearing it up on my '73 Raleigh Super Course. Got it all dialed in. Probably do the same tomorrow.

I didn't ride this weekend because it was 107degrees. By next week it should be better but in the mean time, the swimming pool feels great.

Well, I got a late start to day so I had to deal with the winds the whole ride. On top of that I stupidly did a 20 mile ride yesterday fighting the winds to get it in under an hour so my body was still tired today. But I got in 50.1 miles at a decent pace. Hoping to at least get that many in tomorrow too.

Heading for the Atlantic. Cycled 54.4 km today on a lovely, quiet, paved bicycle path more or less out in the middle of nowhere. Warm day for mid-September ... or maybe this is normal for this time of year in this part of France.

The Last Chance is indeed a long and boring ride. You probably want to take music or audio books on something like that. It's one I might consider doing again, but I'd probably change a few things in how I did it ... like bringing some entertainment along.

We didn't get much rain when we did it, but we did get headwinds both ways. The route is set up to be somewhat vaguely similar to the PBP, with smaller hills (but lots of them) and fewer services than the PBP.

Sorry to hear you didn't finish. I've DNF'd three of the seven 1200Ks I've started.

Got in another 40 miles this morning. Late start so I cut it short, may go back out later. Temps in the high 40s to start. These days are where the wool shines. I can just wear a long sleeve wool jersey and be warm yet not overheat later when the temps climb into the 70s.

Had a nice group ride today, 52 miles and 3700 feet of climbing. Went north across the Golden Gate bridge into Marin, took Paradise loop around Tiburon, then a quick jaunt up the Headlands before heading back home.

Great ride today. Really had the legs ^__^v

My first century!..104 miles. Started out with a friend who was in town and wanted some exercise. He rode my hybrid, so we only were avraging 11.5 mph for the first 10-12 miles. The next 30 I was headed into the wind, and managed to get my average speed up to 14. Caught a nice tailwind most of the rest of the way, and finished at 16.1 average. Just grilled a nice steak and am about to gobble up some ice cream.

Well, not quite the weekend of riding I had planned after Saturday had to be scrapped due to my cousins asthma flaring up. Decided to get out solo today and just see what I could do on the new build. Just never seemed to get it going today. Legs just never felt right and started experiencing a lot of mid-back pain on the return. I guess it's time to finally get fit on the new ride.

Man, the pics of the vineyards in the delta have me very jealous. It seems very isolated and very flat. My rides around my house are so choppy with hills. I love it some of the time due to the good views, but it makes it hard to really get into a groove. It was 80 and sunny on my rides. Friday 22miles through the burbs. Saturday 35 miles. Sunday, I did a quick 20 miles ride. With the 3 kids 3 and under, I haven't been able to go 60 plus in long time. On a positive note, the weather is really starting get nice and leaves will still start turning.

my GF and I did 23 on Saturday, 25 today, in addition to all the normal scheduled chaos on the wekends that we normally have to do. Great weather here in CT this weekend.
