Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Second wheel set for road

Looking for a second wheel set for road only tires to put on a cyclocross bike (caadx). Nothing fancy or expensive. Don't know anything about wheels spokes or hubs. What would be my best options for a budget of about $3-400 including a 10 speed cassette?

Hard to beat Neuvations if you're under 190-200 lbs. As 16/20 spoke wheels, if you weigh more than that you'll probably run into durability issues.

You can also go to ProWheelBuilder and get a set of H+Sons Archetype/ 105 hubs/ DTSwiss 14/15/14 for $399.88. Thirty-two spoke, three-cross. Not sexy in the slightest, but you get the new-style 23mm rims if you prefer those, and the durability of a hammer for pounding out endless miles without drama. Oh, and off-the-shelf replacements if anything does manage to get broken.
