Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Custom Zipp 101 Decals

I train on Zipp 101's. The white stickers look like crap on my frame. I would like to put the beyond black decals on them, but Zipp does not make a 101 decal in "Beyond Black"

The 101's have are 30 MM in depth and the 202's are 32 MM in depth... Anyone tried the 202 decals on 101's to see if they would fit? If I can't find anything, prolly going to just remove the decals all together...

I called SRAM and the rep told me the 202 stickers would be too big and cover part of the brake surface. After measuring them at the LBS, I decided to give them a try anyway. Hardest part of the process was getting the old solid white 101 stickers off since they had been on there for the last year. I think they fit fine... I will do the rear wheel tomorrow.

Did you try trimming the decals down by 1mm on the top and bottom?

Nope. No trimming was necessary. I left them about 1MM of room by the brake surface and still had extra room on the bottom. The 202 decals are also about 2 inches less on the length which gives it a cleaner look in my opinion.

I had to lol a little. I thought I was cheaping out having my 101's on my Roubaix SL4, but seeing them on the S-Works lets me know I am still good.

HAHA! I have 404's as well. But with all the road work in the area and the cities putting crappy chip-seal on a lot of the roads, I am trying not to jack them up. The 101's have been a great everyday training wheel.

I am honestly a bit scared to run a carbon wheel. Not only am I pretty heavy guy (which concerns me about brake pad heat), but the cost outlay for a set of carbon wheels was even more ludicrous than the cost of the 101's. I have to say though, after riding them once I wasn't so worried about that part. Massive improvement.

should fit, i was told that the difference between the 101 and 202's was that one is carbon and the other aluminum.

Get the decals, take them to a sign shop & they can scan them & re-size & change the color.

Zipp has a video on Youtube on how to change decals with a blow dryer and armourall - search Zipp.
