Pedals with Toe Clips Suggestions?
Hi everyone,
I just bought a used Giant OCR1 for my first road bike since owning a 10 speed what seems like 100 years ago. The bike came with pedals with clip-ins, but I've never been comfortable in those, so I'm looking to swap them out for a pair of pedals with toe clips. Looking for suggestions, if anyone has any, about brand and type to consider. don't want to add any more weight or bulk than I have to...
Thanks in advance..

There are precious few quality quill pedals anymore. There is still some decent stuff for track, or you can make due with cheap junk. Look for the MKS brand. You will also find it is almost impossible to find a slotted cleat anymore, if you are into that sort of thing.

Sorry, what is a "quill" pedal exactly? Not sure I'm into a slotted cleat either, I'm used to riding with regular sneakers strapped into toe clips....

I have silver Dimension (brand) pedals with Velo-Orange polished steel "half-clips" on both of my bikes. Based on comments I get, it's a striking combination. Esp. along with a honey Brooks B17 and a VO polished seatpost. I don't have much use for straps; half clips are very secure. I put over 50,000 miles on one set of Dimensions, and they were still spinning fine when the bike was stolen. Online at Universal Cycles, or at least used to be.

There are platform pedals that are so grippy that you don't need clips or straps. Just stomp and go; no need to flip the pedal. Grip King (aka Lambda) by MKS is an example.

I use MKS Sylvan pedals with medium MKS toeclips and generic single straps (toeclips and straps I got in a bundle off eBay) on my fixed gear. I wear size 9.5 street shoes. Total came out to a little over $45. I highly recommend the MKS brand.

MKS sylvan or GR9 pedals. MKS steel clips. And a set of Toshi double straps on my fixed. The straps are probably a little overkill on a road application, but at least look into the laminated straps to prevent stretching. Or go with a cheapo nylon strap.

I have used Powergips, MKS GR9 with both full and half clips and quills with full clips. The Powergrips are the only ones I still use when I'm not riding clipless. They are secure but faster to get in and out and way more comfortable. You can either get the full pedal kit or just the strap to mate up with any platform pedal that has the attachment holes:

Then you'll likely prefer something like the MKS "Urban Platform" pedal over a quill-type pedal. The cage plates on a quill type pedal will tend to dig into your feet if you ride in soft-soled sneakers. The Urban Platform distributes the pressure better:
