Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm not hungry, either.

I shall fast until noon. Then I shall eat cereal, toast, and banana.

I don't expect to have joint pains any worse than I have already endured. I am not genetically predisposed to have a big belly.

if you want a big belly, don't let your genes be an impediment.

I've lost 3kg (6.6lb) since Boxing Day. I feel quite proud of that. But then, I am traipsing up and down hills and along orchard rows every second day during the cherry-picking season. I expect to lose up to 10lbs over the next three weeks, if this keeps up... we go into every-day picking from sometime next week.

Happy New Year All!

If one eats within half an hour of waking up in the morning, your metabolism gets a little jumpstart for the day.

Smoke screen. You gained weight because you eat too much.

Not if he doesn't eat too much.

Correct, and that's a good thing. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

I won't stand by in 2014 and allow my pals to delude themselves. (Now they'll have yet another reason to hate me.)

I did just read about a study that say men who exercise first thing in the morning on an empty stomach burn 20% more fat. Still don't think I'll do it.

My wife dropped 18 lbs watching TV just by cutting out salt.

Happy New Year, Addictionites. I know that the previous year was a rough one for many - best wishes that your 2014 is not the asshatchet that 2013 was.

I have a limited window to operate on an empty stomach in the morning - I'm fully functional until about 10:00. When 10:01 hits, my mood shifts and you can see storm clouds gathering above my head. Yes, those Snickers commercials really resonate with me.

Already up about 10 lb over usual max. "Stuck" here in the old home town, NOLA, until Sunday the 5th. Been here over a week already and won't get home to dining sanity in Houston until then. New Year's Eve dinner last night was a four course fixed-price (usual size portions, huge) blowout at Mr. John's Steak House. Friend's birthday celebration was at Antoine's the night before. Fried soft shell crab. I don't even want to talk about lunches and afternoon pastries on Magazine Street. Pizza planned for watching the Saint's game on Saturday night. I need to go to confession, and I am not even Catholic. But it is so easy here! I mean the eating and the confessing. Quick, someone tell me which sin is gluttony.
