Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Somebody help me. I have had the craziest experiences trying to get my new bike (BMC GF01) set up. I won't go into the gory details on all that, though.

The latest thing is that I need a 0mm offset seatpost and I want the carbon one from BMC. The bike came with an 18mm offset post. Right now I have an aluminum 0mm post in place just as a temporary measure so that my fit is ok. BMC will not work directly with me, orders must go through a BMC dealer, and the closest one is 45 min from my house. I am done dealing with the LBS from which I bought the bike, so I ordered the seat post through a different dealer. Paid for it to be shipped to that LBS (BMC won't ship to me directly) and then again for them to ship it to me (not worth driving 1hr 15 min to pick it up). Today it arrived and its the wrong seatpost, they sent one for a mountain bike. Wrong diameter, wrong post, it will not work. Obviously, we will call and return the thing, but I guarantee they will not really give a ****.

Before I work with yet another LBS to try to get the right post ordered, I was wondering if I might be able to just order one through an on-line bike shop. If so, where would ya'll recommend? Please no knuckle-headed on-line shops, I've had my fill that with LBS. I would ideally like to get the post before my next fitting, April 11, but that is not a deal breaker.

As I mentioned upthread, I am a pretty new cyclist, so I have not had extensive experience working with LBS but so far my impression is that they all just tell you whatever and it is very hit or miss as to whether they know what they are doing at any given moment. I'm pretty unimpressed and would like to just order what I need directly on-line when possible.

i do not know if the bmc has a specific post for the frame or you can use a general one. if general one, i would highly recommend the thomson seat post. really light, really dead easy to adjust with a 2 screw system that is totally versatile and rock solid. i have used other posts and all have had occasions where the seat tilt has moved because the clamp is not secure.

i recommend:

*Chain Reaction Cycles | MTB | Road | TRI | Run
Wiggle | Cycle | Run | Swim | Tri-Sports & Bike Shop
Buy Road Bikes & Parts at Ribble Cycles | Online Bike Shop
Online Bike Shop And Bike Parts - Merlin Cycles

not sure which ones have thomson in stock.

Well the BMC seatpost is supposed to be uniquely engineered to work with the overall purpose/design if the bike and I'm pretty sure I want to stick with the BMC post unless the consensus is that it doesn't really make a difference.

...if you know exactly what you want and read carefully the descriptions of the offering, Amazon is hard to beat.
Almost all the online guys who run their own online sales sites also sell on Amazon, sometimes cheaper one place or the other.\

I'm pretty sure that a CF zero offset seat post is a CF zero offset seat post, no matter who brands it.

You probably won't find the BMC post anywhere but from them, OTOH, they already have convinced you they don't care, so WTH.

If it is a Streampost, BMC is your only option. If it is a round, off the shelf post, you increase your bling factor by matching stem and seatpost with a brand not labelled on the frame.

But ultimately, a carbon post on a carbon frame may not even be necessary. Use the Aluminium one you have. I would wager that the frame is doing far more for your comfort than the carbon post is.

Benson runs the schedule.

This is a good thing in the Winter. If she didn't make me take her on a walk several times a day, I wouldn't leave the house when the temperate went below zero.

From the BMC website, it is "compliancepost, pure carbon, with TCC." I'm not sure what TCC is actually or if the whole concept of this seatpost is marketing or real. I'm pretty sure it is round, but I'm not home, so I'll have to look at it when I get home. I don't really care if it is matchy-matchy to the bike as long as it is black.

...TCC = Totally Cool Carbon (as opposed to the KCC ones that are formed from just Kinda Cool Carbon.)

I was disappointed here recently when even the weight weenie guys would not rise up to berate me for swapping out a CF seat post with an aluminum one. Shocking.
