Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rather drop 7 grand on a custom titanium build with rack and fender mounts and chain stays long enough for panniers. That bike is a very expensive, very focussed tool. I don't see it being fun for really long rides.

All money and no class. Don't mock those who dress well to look good even to go to Cici's pizza, they deserve more respect than the gorilla who lights $100 bills on fire with Kush rolled Philly blunts.

PS. Snobbery and stuck upiness is just as bad.

Again, off topic, but I guess I should clarify. If i'm going out for a special occasion, I'll dress for the occasion. If I'm just going out for dinner because I'm hungry that night and don't feel like cooking, I'll wear whatever it is I have on. Remember though, I live in Phoenix. It's 110+ degrees in the summer. You can go to the nicest of nice restaurants and shorts and flipflps are still 100% acceptable and I wouldn't be the only one wearing them. A nice pair of dark denim jeans and lightweight non graphic tshirt is perfectly presentable.

Anyway, this is silly. Fact of the matter is, you should never leave your house looking like a slob. Always dress like you have somewhere better to go.

Also, if wearing casual clothing to an expensive restaurant and not caring because you can afford to eat there is the biggest problem with the world today, I'd say we're pretty lucky. Even if it's Lil Jon and his entourage rolling up to the place on $15k bicycles.

Anyone else notice that with this new bike, Trek also released a new duotrap sensor (duotrap S) that use both ANT+ and Bluetooth? Having both is kinda nice -- you can use your traditional cycling computer or your smartphone -- or both!

It seems as this new sensor is shaped differently from the original duotrap, which means it wouldn't be backward compatible. Hopefully all the new 2015 Treks will be designed to use this new sensor.

The Trek bikes ridden professionally are built different to what is available in retail. There is the 15lb UCI limit, but also the pro riders complain about stiffness.

Not so fast, asswipe. Today they announced that they will be using cameras: Tour de France shorts: Nibali's wardrobe and onboard cameras | Cyclingnews.com

Same setup: they'll post it online after the stage. "The footage will be published on letour.fr after each stage and made available to television broadcasters." Perhaps they'll show it on TV during the nighttime coverage.

The cameras have been great so far. I'm glad they're moving so quickly on this. I bet they'll be allowed at all races next year.

I just wonder that is the this Emonda SLR 8 will make the fastest bike because of its lightest weight if you ride in the plain road without climbing any elevation ?
if not then why ?

Uh oh. Newb, you will extract a rare civil response from me. On flats, bike weight differences matter less...because of no change in potential energy...lugging mass up hill against gravity...especially at steady state i.e. you aren't accelerating that mass say in break aways or sprinting. Reports are the new SL8....is a fantastic bike, light, great handling without being overly twitchy and with good ride quality. It will be replacing the principle line of the Madone which is Trek's flagship race bike. So don't dismiss it if you don't do any climbing because its just a great bike. In fact, it is probably the best new road bike out this year and available in three different modulus levels which relates to price. For my money the 500 series frameset for less than $1500 is a great value...in the day when an equivalent frameset may cost twice that.

Knee stiffness? I guess it stands to reason with all the miles they ride.

More info here Trek Introduces the All New Émonda, Claims World?s Lightest Production Road Bike

As a complete bike the flagship Émonda SLR 10 comes in at an incredible 10.25 lb (4.6kg) and will retail for an equally staggering $15,749.99. In order to get the weight down to that level Trek is equipping the bike with Tune Skyline tubular wheels, and a Tune Komm-Vorr Plus saddle in addition to the SRAM Red drivetrain and Bontrager parts.

SLR Émondas will also be equipped with the new Bontrager Speed Stop brakes which are a dual post design similar to the Dura Ace integrated stoppers. Compared to Ultegra brakes, Bontrager claims a 50g per caliper weight savings. Speed Stop brakes also offer an adjustable leverage ratio, two position quick release, and a wide set design to work with the widest rims and bigger tires.

Coming standard on the new SLR 10 is the new Bontrager XXX bar/stem combo which provides a 75g savings over the same XXX bar and stem combination used separately. The bar/stem combo features a 129mm drop, 93mm reach, and is compatible with Trek’s new accessory integration system, Blendr. Eventually to be found across their entire line, Blendr allows accessories like lights, computers, and even cell phones to be attached to the stem with out zip ties or additional
mounts.
