Synthetic leather for white. Went with Decathlon house brand gel tape for black as a test. It is very thick and cushy, the exact opposite of what I'm used to. I wouldn't call it a definite improvement, but it is an interesting change in feel. I will go back to synthetic leather when I decide to use white tape again.

Maybe I'll try this.

Bob, is your stuff relatively thin and / or can it be pulled pretty taught? I've tried good leather but just sweat too much apparently. I'm a fan of less squishy and thinner.

Yes, you can pull it tight.

I would say its more squishy than thin but, I wouldn't say its squishy. It's more like what you would find on a racket. It has grip in the wet or when sweaty but it isn't thin like the old Bennotto bike ribbon.

Not a very good answer, is it?

Good enough. Sounds like not as thin as plain leather without any cushioning but not as thick as the thickest. Or maybe that's just what I want to hear.

That's a nice clean tape job.

It'll look cleaner if the electrical tape didn't overlap onto the bars...

You wanna talk sweat? I live in the tropics with sweat as a constant companion.

Nice tape job, btw. I look forward to your feedback.

+1, but if I'm using white tape I prefer Deda tape. It's durable, and cleans up easy.

Easiest cleaning tape I have found so far is Fizik's microfiber tape. Not only cleans easily but it hardly even gets dirty. Problem is it has almost no padding.

Same problem I had. I won't use it again either.

Try the Deda stuff. I used to use the Fizik tape, until I tried this. It has more padding, and grip.

Lizard skin 1.8 race tape. Super light, still has good amount of padding and I love the grip. Nothing more to ask for from bar tape IMO

Durability, and easy to clean are 2 more qualities I want in my bar tape.

I get that. If you someone is using a white or lighter color, I like the fizik microtex glossy. Grips nicely, super easy to clean with any kind of degreaser and lasts forever.

I like thick tape, too, but how is the durability? Several posts here about Lizard not lasting.

The durability has been good for me. My last roll was at ~1500 miles before I had to take it off to readjust my levers...and at that point they were still in excellent shape. I don't out alot of pressure on my hands. They are on the hoods most of the time. If I feel a bit tired, I'll put my hands on the tops. They are in the drops when I descend.

I've got a friend that can't more than a few months no matter what tape he runs. He rests his hands on the curve just behind the hoods...and he runs his stem super low. He puts alot of pressure there and he says his hands sweat alot.
