52 degrees out of the door this morning. Had to turn around after a mile to put on long finger gloves and arm warmers. Kind depressing to think the colder weather is coming.

On the bright size, afternoon commute home these days are glorious - 70 degrees and little wind, and the miles just fly by.

Yup! It is a little depressing. The past week I've had to prepare for cooler weather with knee and arm warners in NoVa. Fall in Northern Virginia sucks because the weather seems to change so drastically hour by hour and day to day.

Keeping with the arm/knee warmers and fully expecting to need to wear long jersey or knickers in the next 2-3 weeks.

NYC here, same thing.. I ride at 5:30am.. and yes, leg and arm warmers are needed. Hell, today I wore an under armour cold gear base layer to keep the cold and wind away. Sad days are ahead my friends. It really sucks riding in the dark that early in the morning, I purposely avoid looking at the Sunrise time

I don't typically have to pull the arm warmers out until about January 23rd when the temp in the mornings drops below 70. Last year I never even broke out the knee warmers at all. I know I know, STFU since I live in South Florida. I'm from northern California so I can sympathize. It is funny to hear cyclists here complain about the "cold", to them "cold" is temps in the 60's, that's when you start seeing arm warmers, knee warmers (leg warmers at 59) and ear muffs.

My definitive temp for arm warmers and long finger gloves with regular summer jersey and bibshorts is 55F.

Below that to about 45F, i will layer a wind vest and put on knee warmers, and occasionally a head hand to cover my ears (between 45-50F).

After that, I have a whole layering system to about 0F.

As long as it's dry, I can make the commute work regardless of temperature. Weekend long rides are a different story, I don't need to be out in the single digits for more than a couple of hours.

Fall and spring are great times to ride. As it warms up you can peel off a layer. That does not work in summertime.

My gripe is not the cooler temps but rather the shorter days (less daylight).

I dunno how you guys do it up there in 'real' cold weather.
The cold starts to really bug me when it gets below about 45 F, doing early evening rides in the middle of Winter.

Everyone has their own comfort level. Personally, I don't mind riding in the cold as long as it's above freezing. Even below is ok. You just have to dress for it. If you are from a warm climate, you are probably going to complain when it gets below 60F. If you are from a cold climate you are going to laugh at everyone else who is complaining about so-called "cold."

We had a pretty abrupt change in the weather this year. The thing that stood out for me on the first few cool rides is how much less water I consumed at an equivalent pace. So nice to go out with only one bottle on a <2hr ride.

Below 20°F is where it stops being fun for me. Unfortunately, that's a good chunk of the year, where I'm at now...

Same here (temp at when it stops to be fun). I have done lower (personal record is around 14F) but in the future I am probably going to aim for a 20-25F limit.

Luckily, where we live it's rarely below 20F.

I might try a couple chillier rides this year, if only to not be completely trainer bound for 3+ months, but I seem to recall my lungs not taking too kindly to heavy breathing of 10° air. That and the air resistance were the two most unpleasant things.

I thought it was 53 yesterday after work, at least it would be in the shade of the trail. Shorts and wicking t-shirt, same as always. In fact, didn't put the fingerless gloves on either. It was a little chilly, but not bad. The bad part was after the body quickly cooled down and I was in the car heading home. That was when I got cold. Actually turned the heat on a bit and when home, donned a pair of sweats and a sweatshirt for about an hour or so.

Getting ready to head out now. 64, but the trail I start out on is typically 5° cooler. Should be a much warmer ride today. I stop with the shorts/t-shirt at about 50°, but only if it's not going to go above that. There's been times I've gone out in the morning at 45° and was sweltering half an hour later when the temp warmed up above 50.

The coldest I've ever ridden in is about 35 to 40F, but that was very early on clear Spring mornings when the Sun was rising and quickly warming things up.

I break out in a rash when I spend more than 30 minutes in direct sun whether I wear sunscreen or not. So I wear sleeves and full length tights all year round. I welcome the cooler weather!

Our weather took a DUMP here in Illinois. Did a ride two thurs ago...91 with a 100 heat index. Literally one week later, high of 54. We've had highs in the 50-60 range ever since, lows in the 40's.

This has been an unusually cool summer for us...and a seriously wet one too. June through today, normal rainfall for us during that time period is 12.61"...we're sitting at 22.89" and counting. We've also been 10-15 degrees below normal off and on...it's been a crappy summer...

Current temp in my location of Socal......102-1/2 at nearly 2 p.m. We get a couple of days of 'cooldown' and then next week, more heat!

We had frost a few mornings last week on Cycle Oregon. Day time temps soared up into the 90's some days. Good thing CO had gear drops.
