Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You are not explaining it to anybody else either...lol.
So to summarize your thread then BoSox...with a bit of humor:
Hi,
I have a bunch of tubes in a box from some good tube builders. I found a guy who is going to glue them together to make a frame. I'm not quite sure what the fabrication process is, but if I am sure, I really don't want to talk about it. Further, I want a frame about size 62cm. I don't want to talk about my fit objectives how it relates to frame proportions either.

So OK then. Thanks for letting us know.
I am going to build a new bench out of some wood I have in the garage as well...lol.

You may have a harder time finding bikes that fit, but I bet you've got a much easier time finding long sleeve shirts/jackets/suits than I do at also 6'2 with crazy long monkey arms.

You don't know this. BoSox has not divulged the length of his arms because it plays in my narrative about top tube length.
BoSox arm length is top secret. Word is this data which is in a hackable cloud managed by Sony, will not be divulged until Christmas.

I'm pretty sure that there's nothing in the BF TOS that requires anyone to divulge the length of their arms, or length of anything else for that matter. (Although it does seem as though some are interested in measuring contests).

I'm not the troll here, man. I have participated; I congratulated the op on his soon to be bike and requested a ride report when he gets it. It just is not the conversation that you want to make the thread about.

You have basically repeatedly told the op he is an idiot for not buying an off the shelf bike and spending the money on a custom one off. And you will not stop hammering home the reasons why you are right. Over, and over, and over, and over. You have 20 posts in this thread already and the op has made it clear he does not care why you think you are right. It is frankly a little weird to keep on about it...you made your point.

Boggles my mind how someone on a bike forum can start a thread that he is building a custom bike and before he can ever post a picture of the progress, 6 pages of questioning his motives, telling him his choice in his build is pointless, questioning the size and why he did this or did that....

Everyone needs to shut the hell up and just enjoy the build as he shares. If you don't want to or if you have questions that may derail the direction of the thread send him a PM or start a new thread.

This is the only bike forum where I see people come to share their bike stories, questions or builds and get capped on for doing so. One would think he just started a thread on building a custom bicycle in a Harley forum.

@BoSoxYacht if you want to share this info and pictures with those who actually enjoy following along with stuff like this without ridicule, I suggest you continue this on another forum. I was excited to follow the progress but have avoided this thread like the plague because I didn't want to have to filter through all the other crap.

BSY,

Add me to the list who subscribed to this thread, because it is of great personal relevence to me. But, who are really challenged to continue to ignore Campag's rant.

I look forward to pictures of the build process and how your experience goes. Because, I'm considering a similliar project for my next bike.

@Campag4life

I need a bike with approx. 640mm of stack, 395-400mm of reach, a seat tube angle that hasn't been relaxed below 73 degrees and, here's the kicker, bottom bracket drop of no more than 50mm. I also require clearance for 28mm tires, preferably with the ability to add fenders.

There aren't any off the shelf, stock, designs available to me, unless you can point me in the direction of something I haven't seen in all my searching.

There are some of us who dont' "desire" a custom frame, we "require" one. Trust me, if there were a stock offering out there for me, I would purchase it.

So, you've made your point. People will either agree or disagree. Your chances of changing anyone's ming on this are extremely limited. Can you give it a rest and let us get on with a constructive thread?

It seems like everyone is being a little unfair to Campag4life. It sounds like he just wanted more information to share his knowledge on the subject. Obviously he wouldn't personally care if someone bought a custom frame, whether he thought they needed it or not. I don't think this thread will ever become "constructive" but I do look forward to seeing a photograph of a bicycle.

Bosox Yacht,

I apologize if you answered this already, maybe it got lost in the shuffle up there. Did you decide to go with gloss or matte? Are you going to have this painted or just finish over the carbon?

Just curious.

At the risk of getting my head ripped off I have a question. It seems that the examples of custom frames referenced, with the exception of the Alchemy, have externally routed cables. How do you intend to route them? Personally if I was having a custom frame built there is no way I would not route the cables internally. Just looks much cleaner. BTW I vote for gloss.

BoSoxYacht.

First off, let me apologize for not contributing anything useful to your thread in my previous posts. I'm not often useful on the internet and don't actually try to be.

Second, congrats on the awesome build. Personally i love carbon fiber and miss working with it. Also... Don't forget, do what you want, forget the rest of our dumb opinions. Mine included.

Thirdly, I'm a marine mechanic, originally from southeastern MA... So your screen name makes me like you just by default. Lol.

Peace out, homeslice and word to your frame builder.

I'm probably going with gloss clearcoat if the weave of the pre-preg weave stays straight in the oven(it should). When vacuum bagging it, sometimes the fabric will creep slightly, and matte clearcoat hides the waviness a little better.

Have you discussed the possibility of a cosmetic overlay with your builder? If, you really want the gloss finish.

But, Campag4life doesn't need a custom frame, so, I suppose I don't either. After all he seems to think he knows what he's talking about and that the rest of us don't. Hmmm

+1.

The only reason I'm not giving my measurements here is because no matter what they are, I'm sure he'll come up with some reason that I don't need a custom build. To some degree, he is correct. I could continue using a stock frame that is too small, and use a huge stack of spacers or an uptight stem. I think that looks awful, and I have a friend that is a frame builder that offered to build a frame for me.

Other than Campag4life, who wouldn't accept the offer of a free custom frameset? The builder is even giving me the components to keep my current bike built up for comparison.

The final layer over the tube junctions can still creep when vacuum bagged.
