But it's your RECOVERY that is needed to increase power/speed. You can't build if you can't recover. Sorry but this sounds kind of self-defeating. It's perfectly ok to lose weight by burning off...

OMG, no way you can increase base fitness AND power while cutting yourself to 1500calories a day. That sounds like a recipe for exhaustion.
