Yeah, if you're not holding onto it for collectibility, then that's what I'd do. I like to file the front faces of the dropouts, keeping factory faces in the back.

It's usually 9mm front, 10mm back. I have some cheap fixie wheels that are both 10s myself.

I'd probably go hit the used bike shops and/or CL and get a front road wheel with QR.
