I think group tracking is already there in the 1000. There's an option for it in the menu. I don't ride with anybody so I can't say more than that.

I know it can be had for slightly less elsewhere, but I had a stack of REI gift cards.

They were both $400 at REI, but the sale ended yesterday. If you're near one, you can walk in and tell customer service you missed the sale, and they'll sell it to you for $400.

They're the same price right now. Any reason to go with the 820 over the 1000?

Maps are very useful for me so I'm assuming the extra pixels in the 1000 will be good to have.
