There is an external clamping pod for bar end...

There is an external clamping pod for bar end shifters, when the bar in question is a Carbon Fiber aero bar that has to be thicker tube wall than Metal does.

For your convenience I just put my cheap caliper...

For your convenience I just put my cheap caliper inside the bored out end of a Nitto Mustache Bar . its just about 2cm.

Guess.. most bar end shifter expansion clamps function similarly. My 80's...
