I'm not getting that from any of the responses, the general theme I'm reading is let them choose the style of bike they want then help them choose the right one.

I don't think anyone is "poo pooing" beach cruisers,but rather the idea that the OP and his siblings think their parents are not physically able to ride what they want to ride or mentally competent...
