For $300, I'd go with the Windsor Timeline...

For $300, I'd go with the Windsor Timeline (http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/windsor/timeline.htm). It comes with a freewheel by default, is ready for racks, fenders, etc. and can fit wide tires....
