Dahon Folder - Chain keeps coming off
I bought my wife Dahon Helios 8 speed. Its been great as it has got her cycling to work each day. Trouble is, the chain keeps slipping off the front single chainring. It sems to happen most when changing from 7th to 8th gear, but has recently started happening in lower gears as well. It only happens when shifting. I have checked the derailieur travel adjustment and am convinced that it cannot move beyond the 8th sprocket.
It is becoming a real pain as if does NOT like oily fingers.
Any suggstions? Is it a known problem with Dahon's? I'll also post this to folding forum.
Cheers

it would seem so- they are definitely aware of the problem in view of previous responses posted in the Dahon forum. The lack of a front derailleur makes the chain prone to falling off the chainring and they dont seem to have fixed the problem yet.
Maybe you should make your displeasure known on the Dahon forum and see what they have to say for themselves.

On the least expensive model, the Boardwalk, I know of 2 people offhand-myself and another person OregonMatt, that converted to a three speed hub in order to either stop or prevent the chain from coming off the front chainwheel. I posted on this topic more extensively on the Dahon Forum.

Did you bring the Dahon in for it's 30 day checkup yet?

yes, it is 18 months old and it only used to happen quite occisionally, but now it is much more frequent. I am strting to think the chainwhel is not in optimal alignment with the sprockets. When you look down while riding it just does not look correct
