1930's? 1940's? English? Chrome Track Frame

I just bought this frame. Im not sure exactly what it is. maybe somebody out there can help. All the information I have at the moment is that its from the 30's or 40's, made with Accles & Pollock tubes, & takes a head clip headset? I don't even know what that is. I've tried to look it up but I can't seem to find anything, maybe you know. Please let me know, thanks.

& if you have about what its worth, let me know.
I've been on the lookout for a vintage british chrome track frame for a while now, so Im pretty happy to add this one to my collection. I got it in the mail this morning and built it immediately!

I have some vintage parts that i've been collecting for a while for this build.

I don't know anything about old track frames, but this one strikes me as interesting; essential; "industrial" even - especially with the bold S/N stamp on the squared fork crown... Nice find TEWZ.

Maybe someone here will be able to tell you more about Accles & Pollock tubes etc.

The lugs remind me of Wastyn build Paramounts, but what do I know.

Here, look at these pictures. Especially the fork crown.

Hilary Stone (or Norris Lockley) will know about this frame, I'm sure. There's a fair amount of info about A&P tubing on the internets (Kromo, also spelled Kro-Mo, was one brand they made and sold).

It really does look like that Wastyn build Paramount rhm. especially the bb and chainstay brace. I don't think its of the path racer genealogy. If you could tell me how to contact Hilary Stone, (or Norris Lockley) I will gladly send a message. i found Lockley on Flickr, but I haven't used that in so long I Forgot my ID !!!

A&C tubing is awesome tubing to ride! I have a generic pre-war pathracer with it. They were way ahead of their time as far as air cooling the tubing and some other techniques. They just didnt have the money, it seems, to have a go with Reynolds and Columbus and were eventually bought by Ti Reynolds. So it goes...

At a guess I'd say it's this Hilary Stone. Sells a lot of nice stuff in the UK.

they are both infrequent poster's here in C&V, but Norris not as often as Hilary, and I'm not sure of his handle, either. I think this is Mr. Stone's:

If you are in Chicago, why not just take it down to Wastyn's. Even if not one of theirs, they know the era and might be able to help you locate a headclip HS.

Neither Norris or Hilary are great at answering email. You'd be better off contacting Jeff Groman here: https://www.classiccycleus.com/

Clip-type headsets faded from favor by the 1940s, but you can still run across them on these old British bikes. Brampton and Chater Lea both made them, and IIRC also TDC.

so i went down to wastyns today. ... Wow do they have some beautiful bikes hanging on the wall ... So cool. 50,s paramont & a very early BSA amongst several others. They couldn't tell me anything about the frame & wouldnt sell me any of the vintage parts they have. Its definitely NOT an old paramount though. but they did confirm that its 1930's/40's ..., the serial # on the bb & the fork are identical & stamped in a very unique way... But still no idea ...back to square one ...

Drudging up an old post here I know, but i was researching my recent pickup and though there were enough similarities between mine and yours to post.

I as well have been searching for a maker to no avail, im not the first collector to have this so Im sure all the scouring for info has been done but here we are again...

Are you sure yours is a clip type headset? look like it could have been similar to mine. I wish there was a better pic of it but the topnut looks the part

Those look like BSA lugs, I think? It was pretty common, I'm told, to get a 'kit' of those keyhole lugs, a shell, and a crown from a BSA distributor (I think many builders just made their own dropouts, it seems). Then, if you used BSA components, you could go as close to "tout BSA" as was possible. I agree that Hilary or Norris should be able to tell you more about this one. The serial number should help.

Edit: that Emil Wastyn (pictured) is a '37. I met his (now 70-ish?) son Oscar last week at the Heartland Velo Show, and he had a beautiful chrome '36 with him at the show.....

Jeff Groman is incredibly knowledgeable in the area of early 20th Century track and six-day bikes. Almost certainly one of the most knowledgeable in the USA in that area....
