looking for a right part that goes into where marked on the pic.
it's the arched bridge—found only on Carlton style frames—for the rear center pull brake assembly.
common barrel adjuster stuffs including Mickey adjuster sorta wouldn't work, too thick for the hole—about 5mm upper, 3mm lower.

will appreciate advices on:
1. what it's exactly called
2. whereabout to get such a thingy
3. any good 'alternative' idea

4.5M. The adjuster from Simplex Prestige DT shifters will work.

It is a tiny little barrel adjuster that goes there... they can be a little hard to find and will take a peek in my box of barrel adjusters to see if I have a spare.

Raleigh and Peugeot were both notorious for using these very small barrel adjusters which are no longer a standard.

If you can get a better picture, I'd bet I could source one as well. Just PayPal me $.45 for postage and she's yours

The opening for the cable housing has a small internal diameter and I had to shave off a bit of the outer casing to fit.
They also sell these periodically on Ebay which is where I got them:

Modern cable housings don't fit those, so it's not a great solution. My solution is to use MAFAC brake levers with adjusters so you can just use a step down ferrule at the bridge.

You can also get some of those skinny unlined white housings by buying a set of NOS MAFACS.

Is this the same site you sometimes see on bike boom mixtes? I think there's either a motobecane or lotus with one of these barrels I could use as a template to sort the endless barrels at the coop.

that's similar to how i did—not the Mafac part, but the ferrule part—in the first place.
unfortunately, the ferrule didn't fit in the hole either. please see the 5th pic from the top in this page.

no. a regular ferrule. i didn't even know the existence of such a ferrule!

solved and thought i would share.

paying over $10 (inc shipping) for such an adjuster wouldn't sound right.
kept on searching, and found this (thanks to Grand Bois for the idea) on the bay.
a step down ferrule at $3 inc shipping, not bad. good olde Dia Compe made.


stepped in part didn't quite fit into the upper hole diameter by like a half mm.

Hi there! I've just bought a 1974 Raleigh international. It's my dream to get it back close to original to be a daily rider. Luckily it's in fair condition which has saved me from going down the path of looking for mint this and nos that. I have the bike dismantled and just going through what's needed. One thing missing is the rear brake cable ferrule adjuster that sits in the half circular bridge across the top of the rear stays, common to Raleigh's, and came across this thread website while internet searching. You mentioned you might have the part and was wondering if you still have one and if you wanted to sell it? Many thanks Matthew.
