new question about the bike... what gear ratio would be good... its a trial frame but i want it to be fixed... what gear ratio should i do so that stopping doesnt send me over the handlebars and so that it isnt too hard.

somewhere around 42-46x17 would probably be good. when are you coming up to DC again?

it's different for everybody. if you've got a road bike, just pick a gear and try riding around in it all day. of course, that only works if your wheels are the same size on both bikes, but it should get you pretty close. cogs are cheap, no big deal if you guess wrong.

um, our home team, the Nationals, are playing the PIRATES on Friday. 7pm. At RFK. conveniently located in the district, no bridge crossings for me!

who wants to sit in the cheap seats and get drunk on smuggled-in high life with me?

I'd like to, but i'm not sure what work is going to do to my schedule. i'll definitely make it to DC sometime friday night. be sure to take a camera and ridicule and photograph and segway bastards.

Tuesday night ride of some sort, anyone want to plan a themed pillage?
Kenton where is our prize/bling photo?

I think it has to be 64x64 or 5k ... whichever is larger?

Btw - I'm also going up for the 5 Boro Friday ... gonna miss the Critical Mass and the game. However, I'll be paying for it by riding the tour with with my family (slow all weekend ). At least I got my miles and speed in this weekend thanks in part to the pirate pelaton which came to the PPTC ride yesterday.

To add the DC Pirate userbar to your signiture you follow these simple steps:

1) Drink some lemon juice to keep the scurvey away
2) Right click on the userbar and save picture as
3) Uplaod the saved userbar to Flickr or a similar photo site
4) Do a little jig
5) Use bike forums' own image insert tool (the little mountain thingy) to add the image
6) Drink some more lemon juice, the usebar may have given you scurvey

When you try to fit everything into one weekend, damn it is a lot of fun.
Pirate Pelaton at PTTC was a blast!
Hide and Seek was fun
Cookout at J5 was a chill way to round out the day

This week
Crit Mass Fri,
Eating all the yummy stuff I miss about NY on Sat
5 Buro Sunday

Add this to it!

Thursday! Hains laps followed by :
"a bridge too Pho"
Start with "hero" laps with the "red and white train", you NEED to be geared and roadied if you even want to think about tagging on the pelaton.
Then form up and ride the bridges to rosslyn and get to the noodle shop before they close the doors on us. Believe me, it is worth it!

Form up at club house and leave promptly at 7PM.

i've talked with folks about this and it's really just not true. if your gearing is right, you should be able to hang with the roadies. the problem is that most people are undergeared for the flat fastness of haines point, since we have to get to and from there somehow. But when I was riding the 3rensho 49x14, i could ride in the pack, no problems.

I'm with you on this one. Tagging on, no problem. Now, helping out in the wind, that's something else.
