Voted bikely.com because it lets me add points between existing ones, move points, save maps, elevation profile and export as a GPX file that works with my Garmin Edge. This site is the only one I know of that offers all these features...could be wrong as I haven't used the others in a while.

I was a big routeslip fan. But website annoyances/bugs have caused me to start using Bikely instead.

^^^ditto. Using Bikely for now. though I love the features of Routeslip, there are way too many persistent problems with editing and saving--which now means losing your route. It appears there won't be any fixes coming any time soon, so I've given up on Routeslip. Bikely is great, just doesn't generate a cue sheet. But seems reliable and has awesome editing capability. Will check out TopoRoute.

SportTracks. It's free and it allows me to map all of my rides without requiring me to be connected to the internet.(You do need to connect to the internet to load preliminary maps, but once you've got the maps, you don't need to connect again.) I don't even need a GPS if I just load a generic .gpx file and edit it within SportTracks.

It has a nice upload tool for usb-enabled GPSes.

BikeRouteToaster is about the best thing going for routing (Next to Mapsource, which does have more accurate data) but it has flaws. Uploading courses created by BRT in TCX or MBCRS format will cause your Edge to freak out and lose communication with Training Center, requiring you to either delete the course from your Edge or, if that doesnt fix it, hard reset the unit.

If you download it as a GPX and run it through GPX2CRS and then reinsert the turns, it works fine and you get to keep elevation data.

Unfortunately tho, BRT doesnt let you store rides to come back to them later. Hopefully that changes in the near future.

Toporoute does, which is why I use it. Plus it generates an elevation profile for you.

What do you mean by route creation? I don't have a GPS. I just use ST to map all of my routes so I can keep track of mileage, print out maps, make notes and just plain keep track of everything that I do. It does take a little work to edit a new route on top of an old or generic route.(2 or 3 minutes of dragging lines and/or deleting points.) I know ST isn't really optimally designed to create route maps, but I still do it.

Which one, if any...will create a turn by turn cue sheet ???

I like TopoRoute but the elevation chart just seems to show net gain between starting and ending points only ??? Not the total elevation gain ???? Maybe I'm missing something.....

Bikely does cue sheets. I've been using it since Routeslip went crazy. Bikely lets you import/export routes, too. Seems to me that the elevation info is better on Bikely, but it requires Flash. Routeslip elevation data always seems very optimistic.

How does Bikely create cue sheets? That could be useful and I sure dont see any way to do it so any insight would be appreciated.

You have to add annotations for some number of points. I think it's about 5 points or something. Not a large number but more than begin and end. After you do, the pull down menu at top left ("Show") will have "Cue Sheet" at the bottom. You can see it on this route of mine:

Okay.. I guess this only works if you draw the route on Bikely. I cant really find a way to add points to routes uploaded via GPX without hosing up the route.

Could you explain how you do this? I've been scratching my head trying to figure this out in Sporttracks.. I can't seem to import a map image (Where did you get yours? Is there Canadian ones?) and how do I import in routes? I have GPX and all that jazz, is there a way to use them and assign them to activities? Thanks.

Really? I've imported several routes to Bikely and edited them. It was impossible to import or edit routes on Routeslip, even though you could copy other's routes. I exported some route to an XML file from another site (can't remember which) and imported it to Bikely without a problem. I've also copied routes on Bikely by exporting it to XML and then importing it and giving it another name.

Are you importing from an file on your computer or directly from a GPS?

No problems importing GPX files into Bikely and editing them.

I like the "follow road" feature of Toporoute.com, but any route longer than, say 20 miles and it won't allow you to generate a GPX - I guess there would be too many points to generate or something.

How come I can click your link and open your map and see your stuff ? The route I just created is taking forever to load......still haven't seen the finished product

I just recently got an Edge 305.....how do the *.gpx files get imported into my device? Seems like the only thing I can import at *.tcx and *.crs files. Is there a conversion, or am I missing something obvious?
