Personal bikes in profile, not in signatures

I have a suggestion that I have gleaned from a different site. Whether you like it or not, I don't mind either way. Instead of having users post their list of bikes in their signature, have a field in their profile that they can list away.

The reason for this is that if say you were interested in a Trek 5200 and did a search, you wont find 6000 posts from User A who happens to own a Trek 5200 and has it in his/her .signature. It would make searches a little easier to filter through topics. ... and it's not like you want to filter out User A because he/she owns a 5200 and could be useful, but not every singly post from User A.

Agree, disagree?

If you actually tried a search using those parameters you'd see that what one has in their signature doesn't affect the results of the search.

For example: I searched the word Cannondale and went looking on a thread from the MTB section for my bud Jim311 because I KNOW he lists his bikes there and that they are in fact Crack-n-fails. https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...e&pagenumber=2

As you can see the only Highlighted Cannondale on the page comes from cbhungry and that's in the body of the post NOT the signature.

Try stuff to make sure it is a problem before you suggest fixing it.

I think Jay realizes that the signature words do not show up in a search. He says so in his post. He is suggesting the bikes be listed in a field of the profile so they could be used as a search parameter.
Unless I misunderstood his post......

Oh I admit I didn't actually try a search (I have enough bikes for now!) but I just happen to see a post with a list of bikes in the signature and I know another VBB forum that does search through the signature so I was just passing it on.

Sorry for the post then..

Actually, I think the idea has merit for another reason - namely the size of some of the signature lines on this board.

Does this really make as much difference, as giving some thought before we post rubbish that has already been done to death?
