Am going to Las Vegas in several weeks and would like to rent a bike to get out of town for a day. Any recommendations on a lbs that rents and/or directions out of town toward nearby attractions like Red Rock

I can get you to Red Rock. Take Charleston (turns into Blue Diamond road?) west out of town until you get to Red Rock Canyon State Park. Park somewhere near the visitor's center and go up the road that goes off the the right from Charleston / Blue Diamond Road. In all, it is a 13 mile loop, all up for the first 4 miles, and then up and down back to the highway, where you turn left to get back to the visitor's center and start another lap.

I have heard that the climb up to the end of the road (Lee Canyon) from U.S. 95 (?) up Mount Charleston is very good, but I haven't done it. Valley of Fire State Park and the portion of the road around Lake Mead that is near the park are also supposed to be good.

I just got back from Vegas.

Of course, I didn't do any riding. But I had a great time and I wish I would have had more time to see Red Rock.

My wife and I did Red Rock. It was fun, easy. If you want a longer ride, park prior to getting to the park and use that road as a part of your ride. It is quite rideable, with good choulders. Hard to describe, as I have forgotten the names of the streets, but it should make sense when you get there.

There is also an ecological park out east of Las Vegas (but still in the town) where there is some nice, but short, riding.

Las Vegas has wide streets that are at 90 degree angles and go on forever, it seems.

One point of caution.
Those fabulous bike lanes on Charleston are huge.
So big, in fact, that many cars use them. Especially at intersections where they seem to make fine turn lanes for those tourists unfamiliar with "bike" lanes.
