1st BF NorCal Diablo KOM Challenge
The votes are in and we're doing Diablo boys and girls.
UPDATE WITH NEW INFO
DATE - SATURDAY JULY 25th
START LOCATION - ATHENIAN SCHOOL, parking @ Athenian after 8:30am, 8:30 or earlier use Creekledge Rd across Diablo Road
SUMMIT TIME - 10:30AM
HOW IT WORKS FOR RIDERS
Here's the concept - time yourself up Diablo South Gate from Athenian (route is here https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path...-KOM-Challenge ). Once you've got a time, I'll assign start times - most leisurely BF climber goes first, followed by the next fastest - delayed by the difference in their qualifying times, then the next fastest and so on. Theoretically if everyone equals their qualifying climbing time, we'd all finish at the summit together. This should make for a fascinating finish between folks who don't normally ride together on climbs
HOW IT'LL RUN
I'll show up ahead of the first rider and have a departure list and watch/stopwatch. As each rider goes, we'll note the time on the list. I'll head up to the summit and pass off the list, leaving the fastest rider to bring up the list and stopwatch.
I'll leave ahead of my timed slot to get to the summit early. I'll be there with a check-in list to record the "official" climb time, take some pictures of everyone enjoying the summit wall together and give it some cowbell.
TIMES
Here is the scheduled departure time. I've PM'd some of you already, please take a look at the list, and your scheduled start time and PM me to confirm you're in. I suggest that you show up ready at least 15mins ahead of your scheduled slot (i.e. allow for traffic/mechanicals if you ride to the start etc.)

My best (from last year) is 80 minutes. This year is more like 90.
I am in and looking forward for a heck of a traffic jam on the ramp. Prediction: massive peloton crash half way up the ramp.

I ain't no KOM. More like the CJOM (Court Jester of the Mountain) or SASPOM (Sorry-@$$ed Slow Poke of the Mountain). If I can do the Devil Mountain in less than 150 minutes, I'd be surprised.
Which means I'd have to leave at 8:30.

Arrgh - league championship swim meet that weekend. I promised the kids I'd be there (and they're trying to rope me into doing the parents' relay, despite me getting tangled up in the lane lines doing back stroke last time around). So I'm out.

My time last weekend from the South Gate gate was 84 minutes (ok, ok, I'm slow, I get it. ) I'll grab my time from the school next weekend when I plan on doing a Double Diablo. (and a triple the next weekend and a quad the following weekend ... I'm obsessing on Death Ride prep.
)
I'm picturing the finish as a giant tangle of bikes with one winner spit out the top like a watermellon seed.

The last time I was timed up Southgate, It was 1:55. Hmmm..... might as well round up to 120 minutes.

I'm in... time... I'll find out Saturday.
Every time I've been to the summit, it has been on the tandem.

Awesome, this is going to be good.
kjfitz - sorry about that clash - hopefully this won't take out too many other BF'rs??
BTW - something's not right here - I appear to be the fastest. That's just plain wrong; need a good spread of times to make this interesting....

I won't know for sure until school starts, but I HOPE to be there.
I'm thinking 1:40, based on the last time I timed mysef up Southgate from the school.
I took a break at the junction, which doesn't show on my timer. So, whih no break I'll likely be even slower....
Garmin reports 11.1 miles, 3238 feet of up.
Markers 1 and 4 on the profile are the junction.
amazingly, the average is only 5.4%
