Katy Trail - Bike forums group ride 2010 ?
Has anyone heard anything about a Bike Forums group ride for 2010 on the Missouri Katy Trail ? I received an email from a fellow rider asking if I was planning on participating but really don't know anything about it. Are there any details available or is it just something swirling around out there waiting to be developed? As always, thank you for your input.

I know nothing, but it would be a blast! We cycled the Katy a few years ago and loved it. If we weren't cycling through Peru, Bolivia and Chile, I would join in!

I, too, am a little disappointed that I haven't seen a 2010 BF group ride post yet.
That said, I'd be in for a ride on the Katy Trail if a group of us decided to get together and ride it.

I'm moving to the greater Cleveland area around the first of June, but would be game if it is before then.

OK, from what I am able to determine is that the individual(s) that was in the process of setting this up has been unable to continue since more pressing personal matters have recently occurred (the poor sod lost his job or position).
The ride was going to take place sometime around the second week of June. The ride was to be from the Katy trailhead at Clinton, Missouri to St. Charles, Missouri, roughly 230 miles of continuous rails to trails bikeway. It was still undecided as to whether this would be done over 4 days at approximately 60 miles a day or a more casual pace of 5 days at about 45 miles a day. For those interested there was available an additional day from St. Charles across the Mississippi River and up the Sam Vadalabene paved bikeway ending at Pere Marquette State Park. It was also still undecided as to the specific modes of transportation or shuttle that was going to be used as both Amtrak and private shuttles are available and were being looked at.
I guess the real next question would be if there was any significant interest in this coming about.

Every day a winding road
I might be interested. But it would mean no BF Great Allegheny Passage ride for me this year.
I was going to bump that thread too.
But either ride is fine with me.

If the BF ride doesn't come together, the Missouri DNR offers a 5 day RAGBRAI-esqe ride. Doesn't look like they have the information up for 2010, but here's the link for last year's ride.

4-3-10 Arrive St. Louis, hop on the train, ride to Sedalia and spend the night
4-4-10 Either ride to Clinton and start the trip the next day, or, more likely, take a shuttle to Clinton and ride back to Sedalia that day.
4-5,6-10 Spend two days riding to Jefferson City
4-7,8-10 Spend a couple of day seeing the sights in Jefferson City. (Thomas Hart Benton is my favourite artist)
4-9,10-10 Take two days to ride to St. Charles.
I'm planning on camping as I want to try out self supported riding. My wife will be joining me for the couple days on either side of Jefferson City. All dates are tentative and could easily be changed a bit.
If anyone is interested, join the thread, or PM me.

I'd be interested in both the Katy ride and also the Gap/C&O ride. I was hoping on doing the GAP/C&O in the fall. I just did a quick check and airfare to St. Louis isn't bad. Would ship my bike out to a shop and fly out with just a carryon. What's the weather like in June in Mo.?
I also have some tentative plans about doing a week's tour in Ontario involving both road riding and some of their trails. Just a big loop in the north country of Ontario, but I could move that if there is interest in a GAP/C&O in the fall.

John,
in early April the weather can still be fairly cool and a greater chance of getting wet in central Missouri. I personally feel that early / mid May is a wonderful time to ride the Katy and of course by mid / late June it's getting warmer but then this is all subjective as to what one is used to.

Hey Guys,
Just joined and saw this thread. Just to give you a heads up in case you do not already know the Adventure Cycling Association has a fully supported ride on the Katy.
Dates are May 15-21 I believe.

A great KATY trail website can be found at www.bikekatytrail.com
I'm fortunate to live about a mile from the trail and can ride it just about whenever I want. I've ridden it end to end twice. Both times we did it from Clinton to St. Charles in 3 days. We did 3 days to accommodate all of our schedules. 4 days would be a little more relaxing. Both times our 3rd day turned into a grind at the end.
